Job Description:
Under the direction of a licensed Nurse and with respect for human dignity delivers a variety of high-quality basic patient care services that meet the needs and uniqueness of assigned patients. Is responsible for the delivery of quality care and service excellence and adheres to the St. Elizabeth standards of behavior while demonstrating respect, dignity, kindness and empathy in each encounter with all patients, families, visitors and other associates regardless of cultural background. Uses full scope of advanced knowledge to better understand and care for all patients.
Job Duties:
• Administers treatment and personal care procedures to patients including but not limited to feeding, bathing, skin care and additional care as required to meet the personal needs and comfort of assigned patients.
• Assists with lifting, transporting, ambulating, performing vital signs, bowel and bladder function, accurate intake and output, clean and bandage wounds, and other duties as delegated by the nursing staff within scope of training.
• Works in a safe manner and follows all system, hospital, and department safety requirements. Reports all incidents (patient and self), near misses and adverse events, reports and identifies any quality or safety issues to ensure that feedback and input needed for process improvement are communicated to management.
• Safely collects quality samples according to laboratory policies and procedures (for the accurate and timely completion of testing). Uses a variety of collection devices to obtain specimens. Handles a variety of body fluids in order to obtain specimens for laboratory testing. Evaluates each patient for a proper site of collection to maximize patient comfort and obtain quality specimens.
• Assists with medical record keeping processes and phone management.
• Assists nursing staff in addressing patient care needs, rounding frequently and ensuring that environment is conducive to care.
• Communicates unusual or abnormal circumstances related to patient to the nurse in an expedient manner.
• Treats patients, family members, guests, health care team members and other associates with care, courtesy and respect. Consistently anticipates the needs of customers and puts those needs first. Utilizes AIDET communication when interacting with all patients and visitors.
• Communicates with coworkers in the best interest of the patients and department. Communicates with patients and supporters to keep them informed of procedures and processes that involve them. Demonstrates commitment to service and contributes to creating a positive caring environment. Responds to patient call lights in an expedient and professional manner. Implements ICARE principles using communication skills and human relations to promote quality patient care and productive working environment.
• Assists in keeping department clean and orderly, as well as keeping the department stocked with supplies.
• Assists with maintenance of equipment and prevention of waste.
• Maintains a safe and effective work environment.
• Maintains all required competencies, including MID, BLS, SMART equipment, other mandatory education, and interdepartmental communication requirements.
• Has the ability to acquire knowledge of and develop skills in basic patient care procedures and charting care provided. Demonstrates knowledge of regulatory requirements

Qualifications
Education, Credentials, Licenses:
• High school Diploma / GED
• Functionally Literate
Specialized Knowledge:
• Ability to perform such tasks as vital signs
• Demonstrates knowledge of body mechanics
• General computer skills and applications
