Job Summary:
Performs customer service duties, functioning independently in patient registration and patient/family communications. Performs various functions within the OPS department such as assisting RN with patient care duties as directed across the age spectrum. Acts independently in the role of scope tech including proper maintenance/cleaning of all equipment and instruments. Assist with housekeeping and stocking of the unit. Adheres to and practices the SJH's Corporate Compliance Program and participates in Performance Improvement activities.
Essential Functions:
1. Nurse Assistant Responsibilities
·Transfer's patients belonging to proper area/department after patients transferred.
·Demonstrates knowledge of supplies, their location and par levels. Orders and stocks supplies in patient care area as needed.
·Assist nursing staff with patient care as directed.
·Assist nursing staff with patient transport as directed.
·Maintains clean safe and functional working environment in front office, patient care area and nursing station.
2. Scope Tech Responsibilities
·Demonstrates ability to set up equipment and supplies as necessary for the care of the scope patients.
·Under the direct supervision of the RN or MD, will perform gastric suctioning - verbalizes knowledge of need for oral suctioning.
·Under the direct supervision of the RN or MD, complies with safety and protocol guidelines.
·Under the direct supervision of the RN or MD, demonstrates ability to set-up, maintain and use equipment as appropriate and as ordered for the following patient care procedures: a. Patient Monitors (EKG, HR, BP, O2 Stat) b.Gastroscope c. Colonoscopy d. Biopsy forceps, polyp snare, polyp net, sclerosing injection.
3. Endoscopic/Special Procedures
·Uses PPE as needed in accordance with SJH policy/procedure.
·Assist in obtaining, collecting, processing and transporting to lab specimen in a secure manner following hospital policy/protocol
·Assist in the cleaning of endoscopic equipment and room.
4. Housekeeping Responsibilities
·Keeps the OPS unit free from clutter and maintains a safe environment
·Assist with room turn over once patient discharged or transferred.
Job Requirements:
Minimum Education:
Required- Must have completed a CNA or EMT course.
Minimum Work Experience:
Required- Excellent customer service skills. Communicates professionally and effectively. Must be able to multi-task and prioritize. Basic Computer skills.
Required Licenses: Must have a current Wyoming CNA license or WY EMS provider license, current BLS at time of hire.
Functional Demands:
Working Conditions: Front Desk high traffic visitor information area. Fast paced surgical and procedural department; sometimes stressful situation. Frequent interruptions. Must be on-site at SJH campus to fulfill the responsibilities of this role.
Physical Requirements: 80% to 95% of time standing and walking. Irregular hours, meals, and breaks. Must possess sight/hearing senses to meet job requirements. Must possess the ability to lift, bend, push, pull equipment and supplies. Ability to reach above shoulders. Ability to lift 50 pounds.
