St. Lawrence County Department of Social Services is in search of:
Computer Technician
Salary: $45,328 with excellent benefits as described below
Benefits: Generous vacation and sick time allowance, Public Service Loan Forgiveness eligibility and the option to enroll
in the St. Lawrence County’s health insurance or opt out of the insurance and receive a buyout in the amount of $2,000 for
single coverage or $4,000 for family.
Duties of the position: This position involves responsibility for coordinating computer and/or microcomputer activities,
services, and functions in a department or among departments. The incumbent is responsible for providing a variety of staff
support services, including equipment installation, maintenance of local area networks, mainframe links, and programming
activities. The work is performed under the general supervision of a higher level employee. May act as a lead worker over
subordinate technical and clerical employees. The incumbent does related work as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Either:
(A) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in
computer science, information resource management, microcomputer technology or related field; OR
(B) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associate’s degree
in computer science, information resource management, microcomputer technology or related field OR completion of
sixty (60) semester credit hours in a New York State registered college or university, fifteen (15) hours of which shall
have been in computer science, information resource management, programming or microcomputer technology AND
two (2) years of full-time, paid experience gained within the past five (5) years in either the installation, operation and
maintenance of computer/microcomputer equipment and peripherals or local area network installation and
administration as a primary function of the job; OR
(C) Graduation from high school, possession of a high school equivalency diploma, or possession of an Individual
Education Plan diploma and completion of a certified, two (2) year, technical or vocational program in the field of
Computer Technology AND two (2) years of full-time, paid experience as described in (B) above; OR
(D) Graduation from high school, possession of a high school equivalency diploma, or possession of an Individual
Education Plan diploma AND four (4) years of full-time, paid experience as described in (B) above.
Additional Employment Information: This is a provisional appointment. The successful applicant will need to take a
civil service examination and score within the top three interested candidates in order to be permanently appointed.
