Summary: The Communication Coordinator is under the direction of the Director of Public Information and is responsible for writing and editing internal and external communications, graphic design, website management and creation of other materials for the Public Information Office and St. Tammany Parish Government.

- Coordinate information for internal and external communication.
- Generate creative, engaging, social media content.
- Maintain parish website, including design and content management.
- Graphic design (logo, print and digital design)
- Write and edit copy for print, speeches, social media, newsletters, websites, radio and television appearances, etc. pursuant to the direction of the Director of Public Information or CAO.
- Produce accurate copy with regard to content, brand and grammar.
- Assist with planning press conferences.
- Produce crisis communications during emergency event.
- Coordinate with and assist other staff members, particularly for time-sensitive materials.
- Manage several projects simultaneously.
- Any other duties as assigned.
Competencies: Employee must be able to operate basic office equipment, office computer and other specialty equipment needed for the position. Communication Coordinator must be competent in social media and website content management. Must have experience in Windows, Adobe Creative Suite, other HTML programs as well as CMS- Content Management System experience (Joomla/Drupal preferred); Website coding & database management preferred.
The employee must be able to communicate clearly with management, staff and the public to provide clear, concise, and accurate information. Basic knowledge of public information/public relations, excellent writing and organizational and time management skills.
Work Environment: The incumbent works in a typical office environment with little or no exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions or hazards. Primary functions are limited to an office environment. Occasional duties may require travel or working in non-office environment. There may be occasions of going to other departments and agencies to collect information or otherwise assist with Public Information Office functions.
Physical Demands: Light work. Light work involves lifting no more than 20 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds. Even though the weight lifted may be very little, a job is in this category when it requires a good deal of walking or standing, or when it involves sitting most of the time with some pushing and pulling of arm or leg controls. To be considered capable of performing a full or wide range of light work, you must have the ability to do substantially all of these activities. If someone can do light work, we determine that he or she can also do sedentary work, unless there are additional limiting factors such as loss of fine dexterity or inability to sit for long periods of time.
Required Education/Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field such as marketing, media, public relations, journalism, graphic design, visual arts, and/or a closely related field preferred. Experience in relevant fields may be substituted for degree. Applicant must possess a valid Driver’s License.
POSITION MEETING REQUIREMENTS: The incumbent may be required to attend Parish meetings before, during and after business hours.
