Job Description
Role and Responsibilities
Retail Associates responsibilities include, but are not limited to great customer service, cashiering, stocking, merchandising, cleaning, intake of donations and production of donations to sell. Shifts are scheduled at 5-8 hours depending on employment status and are between 7am-7 pm. Work week is minimum of 3 days a week. Hours per week are up to 28 for part time and 40 hours for full time.
DONATIONS
- Responsible forloading and unloading of donated goods within vehicles as needed.
- Assist with the initial separation and delivery of donated goods to appropriate intake locations.
- Politely Communicate to donors’ items that cannot be accepted by St. Vincent De Paul Des Moines
- Provide donor receipts and store information.
- Work with fellow associates to accomplish donation take-in within allotted times.
- Sort donations to standards in which can be sold.
- Organize within select areas to ensure clean aisles and room to grow
- Organize and store seasonal donations.
PRODUCTION AND MERCHANDISING
- Clean, sanitize donations if needed during production process, including furniture.
- Prepare goods by tagging using appropriate pricing judgement.
- Meeting or exceeding production goals in designated area.
- Recap previous days production results, daily sales and understand new daily goals.
- Merchandise quality items on sales floor to maximize profits.
- Maintain the sales floor and inventory in a clean, neat, and properly displayed manner.
- Follow rotation of color tags on a weekly basis.
INTERNAL/ EXTERNAL CUSTOMER SERVICE
- Provide a great customer experience by smiling, using professional body language, and having a pleasant disposition when providing great service to shoppers and donors.
- Greeting, sharing of our mission, store information and donating options is expected.
- Assisting customers in locating and/or selecting merchandise in areas of the store.
- Meeting or exceeding production goals to the sales floor ensuring a great customer experience.
- Refer customers’ complaints or inquiries to management should situations arise.
- Remain calm and focused during times of customer disputes.
- Process customers sale transactions, wrap and bag merchandise, thank the customer for shopping at St. Vincent de Paul Des Moines.
- Accurately conduct sales transactions and maintain cash and credit card control by following proper procedures regarding voids, refunds, checks, credit cards, etc.
- Engage and encourage sign up to our rewards programs and social media options.
- Teamwork is expected when working throughout the store and stockroom areas.
- Refrain from disruptive, confidential, or inappropriate communication with internal/external customers.
- Follows handbook directives including being on time for shift, proper dress code, working scheduled shifts, proper handling of time off, and keeping supervisors informed of said directives.

SAFETY
- Always maintain a safe work environment by following company safety regulations.
- Immediately report all incidents of theft (both internal and external) to a management team member
- Responsible for floor maintenance and cleanliness daily, including dust mopping, damp mopping, and burnishing (where appropriate)
- Responsible for cleanliness and maintenance of all rest rooms, show windows, fitting rooms, back room and dock area, and store exterior including parking areas
- Report repairs that require outside assistance
- Responsible for the changing of defective florescent lights to maintain a proper lighting level in all areas of the retail store.
- Attend meetings and training sessions as scheduled
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Must possess and consistently demonstrate the ability and willingness to utilize excellent customer service skills
- On-time and consistent attendance and punctuality
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret documents relating to store operations and sales
- Ability to follow instructions, adhere to policy, and make basic decisions about the job.
Preferred Skills
- 1 year experience in related field
- Ability to perform basic mathematical equations is preferred
- Customer orientation and ability to adapt/respond to different types of characters
