Summary
The Groundskeeper is responsible for maintaining and enhancing the site's grounds, which includes
performing various landscaping and maintenance tasks throughout the year. Tasks may vary by season
and require the operation of a range of equipment. The Groundskeeper also plays a role in ensuring
safety and cleanliness across the site.
Job Responsibilities:
1. Grounds Maintenance:
• Maintain and improve the appearance and safety of the facility's grounds.
• Implement planned landscaping designs to address landscaping needs.
• Perform tasks such as planting, mowing, weeding, fertilizing, sweeping, raking, salting,
shoveling snow, and removing ice, depending on seasonal requirements.
2. Equipment Operation:
• Operate various types of equipment, including power mowers, saws, weed eaters, hedge
trimmers, sprayers, and more.
• May be required to operate trucks, tractors, and attachments needed for grounds
maintenance.
3. Sidewalk and Driveway Maintenance:
• Clean and maintain sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, and other paved areas.
4. Equipment Maintenance:
• Perform regular maintenance and minor repairs on lawn equipment and tools.
• Report any equipment malfunctions or defects promptly.
5. Safety Compliance:
• Adhere to all safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
6. Assistance with Facilities Department Work:
• Assist with other Facilities Department tasks as necessary, such as moving furniture or
equipment, performing preventative maintenance, custodial duties, and supporting events
on campus.
7. Other Duties:
• Perform additional duties as requested.

Qualifications:
• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Previous experience in groundskeeping/horticulture is desirable.
• Preferred: 3 years of prior experience in a mechanical or electrical trade.
• Mechanical knowledge, dexterity, computer skills, and mathematical skills.
• Working knowledge of groundskeeping principles and power landscape equipment.
Physical Demands:
The physical demands of this role may include lifting, bending, pushing, pulling, extended walking, and
standing. The use of uniforms and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) may also be required.
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to various environmental
conditions, including wet or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, high or precarious places, fumes
or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outside weather conditions, risk of electrical shock, and
vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
