What are the responsibilities and job description for the Plater position at Standex?
The Plating Technician is responsible for supporting the Standex Engraving Mold-Tech Tribocoat technique, applying Electroless Nickel Teflon coating to plate molds and dies to an instructed thickness, maximizing mold performance.
The individual in this role is a multi-facet, highly efficient, team player supporting all stages of mold progression to exceed customer needs.
What You'll Do
- Uses thorough knowledge of how metals react to corrosives with chemicals to understand and predict reactions including the approximate rate and outcomes.
- Refers to Safety Data Sheet (SDS), OSHA regulations, and provided safety equipment to ensure safe handling of chemicals.
- Monitors and maintains corrosives by properly labeling, mixing and maintaining acid tanks by understanding Baume and temperatures as instructed by SDS and manager.
- Performs titrations to plating bath.
- Uses rate gauge to verify plating thickness.
- Works from supplied data record for each tool and follows direction as instructed.
- Identifies any deviations that could cause issue as tool is plated; works with manager and completes legible documentation to correct and prevent these deviations to meet desired results.
- Communicates in an effective and timely manner with any tooling issues to the Production Manager
- Ensure proper working order and cleanliness of pit areas, work areas and tools.
What You'll Bring
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Two-year training certificate or associate degree in plastics-related, preferred.

- Demonstrated experience and knowledge in Tooling, Mold-like industries, or similar craftsmanship skills highly valued.
- Well versed in mold rotation for even plating and other plating irregularities due to poor positioning or flow eddies caused by these conditions.
- Confident decision-making skills and comfortable adjusting to fast-paced job needs.
- Excellent attention to detail and focus with irreversible job responsibility.
- Experience with all aspects of electroless nickel coating process preferred.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
- Able to work a 40-hour work week with occasional overtime including weekends as a needed.
- Frequent lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 50 lbs.
- Exposure to dust, fumes, chemicals; moderate noise levels.
- Must adhere to wearing proper PPE; including, but not limited to, steel toe / composite safety shoes, hearing protection, and safety glasses.
- Frequently in or alternating between a stationary, moving and walking position.
