ABOUT THE POSITIONThe Librarian III is an integral member of the Library Senior Leadership team working independently and is responsible for the effective operation of the Salida Library under the direction of a Library Operations Manager. The incumbent may be required to work evening and weekend hours. All libraries in Stanislaus County are currently closed on Sundays. There are thirteen library branches within Stanislaus County (Ceres, Denair, Empire, Hughson, Keyes, Modesto, Newman, Oakdale, Patterson, Riverbank, Salida, Turlock, and Waterford). The Librarian III classification may be distinguished from Librarian I/II in that positions in the Librarian III classification have the general responsibility for the effective operation of assigned departments/branches.The individual selected for this position will serve as the Salida Branch Supervisor.Unless otherwise provided, this position is part of the Classified Service of the County and is assigned to the Mid-Management Bargaining Unit for labor relations purposes. Individuals who are in a full-time classified position are required to serve a twelve-month probationary period, which may be extended an additional six months, for a total of eighteen months. Plan and set goals for the department/branch;Supervise Librarian I/IIs and Library Assistants;Participate in selection and training of new employees;Evaluate and discipline subordinates;Organize and assign tasks and projects;Attend Senior Leadership meetings and recommend library policy;Serve as the liaison with other departments/branches in library system;Review collections on a regional level;Provide support and oversight for outreach, programming, and material selection on a regional and/or system wide level;Participate in regional and/or system wide committees; Recommend budget for assigned department/branch;Provide reference and reader's advisory services;Prepare and perform programs for various age levels and groups;Monitor day to day maintenance requests, and pass larger concerns on to the Library Operations Manager;Process incident reports;Act as a Passport Acceptance Agent; Generate a strong staff commitment to public service; andParticipate in the establishment of long-range goals, plans, and objectives of the library.
