What You'll Do
As a Director of Engineering, you'll lead our distributed software engineering group within our Digital Solutions team. Our team has a presence in Denver, Atlanta, Baltimore, and Austin. We are location flexible. You will:
- Inspire and lead a team of experienced software engineers, software architects, and QA engineers
- Recruit, hire, develop and retain a team of exceptional software and QA engineers focused on excellence, innovation, and having fun
- Champion best practices, processes, and quality initiatives to empower your team to deliver clean, high-quality, and performant code.
- Establish collaborative, cross-functional relationships with business and product stakeholders to understand their needs and translate those needs into scalable, sustainable software solutions.
- Establish a strong engineering culture built on trust, innovation, and a mindset of continuous improvement
- Be responsible for research, selection, implementation, and maintenance of the end-to-end tech stack including Platform, cloud, web apps, mobile apps, and internal development tools
- Manage platform and application development by internal teams and 3rd party vendors
- Use your extensive knowledge and experience to research, recommend, and educate the organization on the technologies needed to deliver world-class digital solutions.
- Be diligent yet empathetic while driving digital solutions in a non-digital company. Collaborate with the leadership team to educate, sell and communicate digital needs and strategies to executive leaders across the organization to drive the adoption of digital solutions.
- Proposes enhancements based on data that will improve the reliability and performance of the systems that power our digital solutions.
- Report on the status of development, quality, operations, and system performance to your peers in the executive leadership team
- Ensure your team follows corporate security standards and is compliant with industry regulations (ex: GDPR)
- Develop budgets, schedules, and team performance metrics.
- Build long-term development and succession plans.
Who You Are

- 10 years of experience in full-stack software development
- 5 years of experience building, leading, and scaling high-performing software engineering teams that meet the demands of a rapidly growing business
- 3 years of architecting and designing (leveraging software architecture, design patterns, reliability, and scaling best practices) new and current systems
- Experience coaching and mentoring software architects, software engineers, and QA engineers.
- Demonstrated domain expertise in cloud technologies like microservices, containerization, cloud-native storage technologies, modern Javascript frameworks like React, and mobile technologies including iOS and Android
- 3 years of experience developing and delivering cloud services on AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud
- Track record of making data-driven decisions that lead to great results
- Experience translating business vision and goals into solutions that deliver customer value in a fast-paced agile environment
- Experience leading agile product delivery teams with a history of delivering high-quality solutions
- Ability to respectfully disagree, yet align when dealing with different stakeholders
- Dedicated team player with the ability to build positive and collaborative relationships within the organization
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent experience
- Excellent communication with an ability to tailor communication for audiences ranging from engineers to executives.
