Your Opportunity
Join Stantec’s collaborative, high-performing team and play an integral role in projects involving wetlands, wildlife, ecological and regulatory needs. Stantec is seeking an environmental wetland scientist to join our team in Walkerton, Indiana. Projects will support wetland delineations, wildlife and habitat surveys, and vegetation monitoring.
The primary team is based in Walkerton, Indiana, however Stantec is open to candidates throughout northwest, Indiana.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a lead for ecological assessment and waterway/wetland regulatory projects
- Provide technical expertise in field data collection (e.g., wetlands, habitats, wildlife, water quality), assessment, planning, regulatory consultation, environmental permitting, and restoration projects
- Conduct varied threatened & endangered species habitat surveys and assessments
- Prepare documentation pursuant to NEPA, USACE, EPA, USFWS, and other federal, state and local regulatory/permitting programs
- Develop local and state erosion and sediment control permits
- Soil identification and identification of hydric soil indicators
- Responsible for projects budgets, scope changes and schedule commitments
- Participate in business development activities such as proposal development and client meetings
- Able and willing to assist our restoration and maintenance teams with field work for quality control
- Opportunities for water quality, fish, and wildlife surveys possible
Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Experience conducting fieldwork, including wetland delineations, using at least one of the USACE Midwest, Northeast and Northcentral Regional Supplements
- Strong field botany skills and ability to conduct fieldwork, at times for long hours or under strenuous circumstances
- 38hr USACE Wetland Determination and Delineation training
- Knowledge of special status species in the Midwest and experience with vegetation monitoring and sampling methodologies
- Strong problem-solution orientation, detail oriented and resourceful
- Flexible, team-oriented approach, with the willingness and desire to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
- Effective time management and follow-through, with the ability to simultaneously work on and potentially lead multiple tasks subject to project deadlines
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Word & Excel
- Ability to travel to work locations with some overnight travel capacity
- Valid Driver’s License
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in botany, plant ecology, wetlands ecology, riparian ecology, conservation biology, or related science
- 3-5 years of related, professional experience
