An opportunity exists for a senior hydrologic/hydraulic engineer who has a passion for water resources engineering, with an emphasis in urban stormwater systems. The role of the senior civil engineer is to lead teams on small and large projects, as well as be a team member. You will perform a variety of tasks which may include business development, project management, design and analysis of water conveyance systems, coordination of tasks and personnel, occasional field work, quality control, and mentoring junior staff. The projects may have complex features that will require the application of mature knowledge and experience. You will lead the proposed projects to ensure accurate hydraulic analysis, resource efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. Projects may include flood plain management, hydrology and hydraulics (H&H), floodplain modeling and mapping, environmental restoration, and stormwater infrastructure design with the goals of:
- Delivering high quality products/outcomes
- Meeting financial and timeline constraints
- Achieving client satisfaction
Your Key Responsibilities
As Senior Water Resources Engineer, you will be responsible for contributing to the delivery of successful water resources projects by helping develop cost effective, practical designs and construction solutions for our clients. You will interact internally throughout the organization with staff at all levels as well as clients, members of professional organizations, subcontractors, and other firms. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Oversee and manage multiple projects. May be responsible for large projects of high complexity.
- Develop project scope, budgets, and design approach for all size projects.
- Lead marketing and business development in positioning for potential projects, writing technical portions of proposals, participating in client interviews and supporting negotiations for project contracts.
- Serve as Engineer-of-Record.
- Provide technical leadership for civil related projects, including the management of existing client relationships and bringing in new clients.
- Prepare and/or oversee the preparation of technical reports and design briefs.
- Perform technically complex projects and act as a technical resource by providing guidance to other team members.
- Supervise the work of other engineers, including setting the priorities for their scope of work, their budgets, and their schedules for completing the work.
- Coach and train junior staff.
- May perform or assist Project Manager and/or Project Technical Lead with managing and monitoring financial performance of project budgets.
- Review and conduct alternative analyses to support business case evaluations for making project decisions.
- Manage and lead others while working on projects and developing design; assigns, reviews and evaluate work for technical accuracy and completeness; advises on technical problems.
- Lead project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, owner and contractor, sub-contractors, and vendors.
- Lead in client project requirement meetings, value analysis, and cost estimating.
- Lead the preparation and coordination of project specifications with construction documents.
- Conduct quality assurance and quality control on own projects and projects of peers.
- Serve as the Project's point of contact with clients, agencies, and others to obtain and determine project requirements and approvals.
- Remain current on regulatory policy and rule changes and may establish working relationships with regulatory officials.
- Engage in leadership in professional organizations that align with expertise; write technical papers and delivers technical presentations for conference and symposia events.
- Assist and/or lead the development of proposals and contract negotiation.
- Conduct work in a safe manner and promote health and safety within the office and outside the office while visiting clients and job sites.

- Requisite knowledge, interpretation, and application of design and construction codes.
- Strong understanding of all phases of project document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.
- Strong knowledge of civil systems, means and methods, materials, and industry standards.
- Ability to lead one or more teams through all phases of the project.
- Check the work of others for accuracy and completeness and manages time to meet project budget and schedule.
- Leads, participates, and collaborates in project team setting and engages in creative and critical thought.
- Advanced understanding of civil engineering concepts and ability to communicate ideas to others.
- Experience with risk and uncertainty engineering methods and practices.
- Require understanding of Microsoft Office, as well as relevant discipline software programs, which may include AutoCAD Civil3D, ArcGIS, HEC-RAS, PCSWMM, StormCAD, WaterCAD, (or other modeling software).
- Experience authoring technical reports.
- Experience leading, teaching, coaching, and mentoring junior engineers.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in civil, water resources, or environmental engineering.
- Registered, or eligible for registration, as a Professional Engineer in Colorado.
- 10 years or demonstrated equivalent relatable experience.
Typical office environment working with computers and working at a desk for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Salary Range(s):
- $108,000.00 - $162,000.00 (CA, CO, WA locations only)
The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
