TITLE: Survey Crew Chief
SUMMARY: Responsible for assisting the Professional Land Survey to research and collect data in the field to measure land. Plan and schedule survey crew for field work related to projects.
LEVEL: Supervisor
WAGE: Nonexempt/Hourly
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Responsible for entering and gathering field data through use of GPS and other survey equipment and methods on various project locations in accordance with industry and client specifications, scopes of work, and regulatory standards.
- Performs basic surveys: leveling, traversing, triangulation, trilateration, public land surveys, metes and bounds surveys, construction surveys, photo control surveys, and GPS surveys.
- Performs research and interprets descriptions, survey plats, topography, field notes, construction plans, electronic files, and data calculations within internal company files, municipal records, other Professional Surveyor businesses, and historical recordkeeping associations when necessary.
- Communicates discrepancies and technical errors with Field Manager and Professional Surveyor while on project site until situation is resolved.
- Accurately enters billable or nonbillable time worked and equipment time for each project or assigned task at the end of each day.
- Inspects, maintains, and reports damage or technical difficulties with all equipment to appropriate vendors or managers.
- Meets and communicates regularly with field manager and Professional Surveyor to determine tasks of the day, projected field time, and budget for each project.
- Monitors, maintains, projects, and reports inventory needs as required to fulfill project needs.
- Maintain good client relations in a professional manner at all times.
- Trains and complies with current safety practices and procedures at all times.
- Trains and complies on most current survey technology and standards.
- Complies with Professional Surveyor Code of Ethics.
- Good attendance is an essential function of this position.
Supervisor Responsibilities * Prepare projects prior to field work including, but not limited to, research, uploading data, type of equipment and supplies, confirmation with client, communicating additional needs with managers as needed.
- Direct survey crew while in the field.
- Direct survey crew to conduct and maintain safety and maintenance checklists, and supply inventory.
- Direct communication with client or client representative on commercial, agricultural, municipal and residential site.
- Verify and review each survey crew member’s billable or nonbillable time daily.
NONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS * Responsible for assisting all staff with daily cleaning and/or maintenance duties throughout the building and property when/if surveyor work is caught up and/or unavailable.

- Ability to lift 50 lbs regularly throughout assigned workday.
- Ability to work outdoors in the extreme heat or cold for several hours at a time.
- Ability to walk on uneven surfaces, ability to work in fields, wooded areas, and other outdoor exposures.
- Ability to stand, walk, stoop, bend, and squat regularly.
- Ability to reach overhead to pound iron rods or stakes into ground, set-up and tear down equipment, and walk through trees and bushes.
- Ability to see color for use of laser equipment and differentiate flagging colors.
- Ability to sit for long periods of time while working on a computer.
QUALIFICATIONS * Five years experience in land surveyor or related field.
- Five years experience leading survey crew.
- Strong trigonometry comprehension and problemsolving skills.
- Experience in Microsoft Office programs, AutoCAD, email and internet usage.
- Good organization and time management skills.
- Associates in Surveying, Drafting, or related field are preferred, but not required.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $45,000.00 - $50,000.00 per year
