What you will be doing:
This Office Assistant (OA) 2 position provides administrative support to meet the needs of the Fairbanks Public Health Center and local communities within the Interior & Northern Region. This position maintains, updates, and develops policy and procedures to ensure accurate data capture and processing. The OA 2 directly supports the Administrative Supervisor by working with the front office staff to ensure the completion of staff training and understanding front office policy and procedures.

This position is located at 1025 W Barnette St, in Fairbanks, Alaska, known as the Golden Heart City.  Fairbanks is almost centrally located within the state, nestled in the Tanana Valley of Interior Alaska, and just 120 miles south of the Arctic Circle.

To be successful in the position the candidate will need the following core competencies:

  • Clerical: Applies knowledge of clerical equipment and software, processes, techniques, and professional standards to complete routine office work to generally accepted professional standards. Completes work independently with minimal supervision. Uses skills and abilities to complete tasks consisting of many different and connected parts, including deciding which processes to use.
  • Computer Skills: Uses computers, software applications, databases, and automated systems to accomplish work
  • Customer Service: Interacts with recipients of services (internal or external customers) in a way that provides accurate, timely, and effective information and service in a courteous and professional manner.

High school diploma or the equivalent.
AND
One year of experience that includes clerical tasks such as greeting clients, answering phones, typing, filing, sorting mail, entering data, receiving payments, making change, or maintaining logs.

Substitution:
Education from an accredited college may substitute for the required experience (3 semester hours or 4 quarter hours equal one month of experience; 150 hours of vocation education equal one month of experience).

Special Note: 
"High school diploma equivalent" means one of the following: 1) a G.E.D.; 2) completion of any basic adult education course equivalent to 480 class hours (16 weeks at 30 course hours per week); 3) acceptance in full standing by an accredited college or university; 4) highest grade of school completed plus an amount of paid or volunteer experience that totals 12 years and includes basic clerical tasks such as greeting clients, answering phones, typing, filing, sorting mail, entering data, receiving payments, making change, or maintaining logs.

Some positions in this class may require the incumbent to operate motor vehicles. Such positions require that the applicant possess a regular driver's license and be 18 years of age or older.

Some position in this class may require skill in typing. Recruitment and selection may include this requirement.At the time of interview please provide the following:

If chosen for the position, you will be required to provide the following items prior to employment:
  1. Proof of Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis (Tdap), Mumps, Measles, Rubella (MMR), and Varicella immunizations.
  2. Proof of Hepatitis B (immunity or a signed declaration statement).
  3. Annual influenza vaccination or a signed declination statement. 
  4. Proof of Tuberculosis screening within past 12 months. 
  5. A copy of current Alaska driver's license.
