This position is located in the Auraria Campus Police Department (ACPD)  https://www.ahec.edu/services-departments/police.  The AHEC Police Department provides emergency, non-emergency, technical and communications support for the Auraria Campus Community. 
 
As a Neighborhood Community Officer I,this position will be responsible for patrolling and protecting the campus buildings, parking lots and other campus areas to protect the institution, private and public property from unauthorized usage, fire, theft or disturbance and to enforce institutional rules and regulations.  Duties include:
  • assisting campus members and visitors with directions, escorts, and motorist assistance
  • securing and unlocking buildings according to approved schedule
  • patrolling assigned buildings and grounds to deter crime
  • controlling usage of buildings and reporting infractions of security or safety hazards to appropriate law enforcement personnel
  • operating a two-way radio during emergency situations, writing reports, issuing parking citations, impounding bikes 
  • additional responsibilities, including those related to providing a safe and secure campus, as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School diploma or GED
  • Applicant must be at least 18 years of age

SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Due to the inherent ability of this position to impact the safety and security of the Auraria Campus, candidates must be able to communicate fluently in English with others (written and verbally).
  • This position requires pre-employment background and credit investigation (personal and employment history).  Applicants must submit to a complete background investigation that will include a personal and employment background check for various security clearances including Colorado Crime Information (CCIC) and National Crime Information Center (NCIC) security clearance. This investigation will include a polygraph interview, fingerprint check and drug screen. 
  • Any offer of employment is contingent on the successful passing of a physical and psychological examination by a licensed doctor or health care facility.  The health care facility will be selected or approved by the Auraria Higher Education Center in order to determine whether the prospective employee can perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Applicants must not have any felony convictions, domestic violence history or alcohol offenses within the last (3) years. 


CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
  • Designation as Essential Services.  As such, this position is required to be on duty to perform essential and/or emergency services of the agency without delay or interruption.
  • Effective September 20, 2021, employees will be required to attest to and verify whether or not they are fully vaccinated for COVID-19. Employees who have not been fully vaccinated may be required to submit to serial testing in the future. Upon hire, new employees will have three (3) business days to provide attestation to their status with proof of vaccination. Vaccinated employees must provide proof of vaccination.
     
    Note: Fully Vaccinated means two (2) weeks after a second dose in a two-dose series of the COVID-19 vaccine, such as the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine, or two (2) weeks after the single-dose vaccine, such as Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen vaccine, as defined by the most recent State of Colorado’s Public Health Order and current guidance issued by the Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment.
