  • Hours : Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday : 7 : 30 AM - 4 : 45PM Thursday : 9 : 00 AM - 6 : 15PM Saturday : 7 : 45 AM - 12 : 45 PM
  • This recruitment will be used to fill vacancies in any of the following locations as they become available : Bridgeport, Cheshire, Danbury, Enfield, Hamden, New Britain, Norwalk, Norwich, Old Saybrook, Waterbury, Winsted, Wethersfield, Willimantic.

THE ROLE The Head Motor Vehicle Examiner is a working supervisor and is a valued member of the team that will assist in overseeing the operation in a branch office and will report to the Motor Vehicle Hub manager or MV Supervisor II.

Members of the management team are required to remain until the last customer is served. ABOUT US

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In the Departmentof Motor Vehicles branch offices and units within the central office this classis accountable for acting as a working supervisor for a unit responsible forthe issuance of operators' licenses, titles and / or registrations.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

  • Assigns duties and reviews results for accuracy, effectiveness and conformance with policy;
  • Reviews and evaluates courtesy and attitude toward the public and other employees;
  • Studies and analyzes office tasks performed;
  • Oversees and coordinates the daily work involved in the issuance of official motor vehicle documents;
  • Prioritizes, schedules and assigns duties;
  • Maintains proper workflow;
  • Provides on the job training to unit staff;
  • Resolves individual work-related problems;
  • Maintains daily records;
  • Orders supplies;
  • Ensures the accuracy and efficiency of unit work;
  • Completes inventory and production reports;
  • Obtains from and provides information to a variety of personnel within other divisions, departments or the public;
  • Examines and processes applications and supporting documentation;
  • Issues official documents;
  • Operates automated and other office equipment;

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

  • Considerable knowledge of the functions and activities of the Department of Motor Vehicles; office systems and procedures;
  • Knowledge of record-keeping;
  • Skills in operating office equipment; interpersonal skills; oral and written communication skills; in examining documents to determine compliance with established requirements;
  • Ability to lead employees; read, understand and apply motor vehicle laws, regulations, policies and procedures; resolve difficult office situations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

Five (5) years of clerical experience.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SPECIAL EXPERIENCE

Two (2) years of the General Experience must have involved the issuance of official documents requiring the examination of applications and supporting documentation.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED

  • College training may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equalling one-half (1 / 2) year of experience to a maximum of two (2) years.
  • Two (2) years of experience as a Motor Vehicle Examiner or one (1) year of experience as a Motor Vehicle Examiner Specialist may be substituted for the General and Special Experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience communicating with diverse population and issuing license and registrations.
  • Experience examining official documents and forms for authenticity and completeness.
  • Experience interpreting and applying Motor vehicle laws, policies, and procedures.
  • Experience handling escalated issues with customers.
  • Experience with Daily Deposits and balancing of Cash Drawer and Audit of Work.
  • Experience training and leading staff.
