In meeting this mission, Attorney General Kathy Jennings is supported by teams of talented lawyers and staff in the Criminal, Civil, Family, Fraud and Consumer Protection, and Civil Rights and Public Trust Divisions. Each of the more than 500 staff who work in the Office of the Attorney General are dedicated to serving all Delawareans with integrity and passion. Deputy Attorneys General, with critical support from criminal special investigators, victim service specialists, paraprofessionals, and administrative staff, prosecute criminal cases, enforce consumer laws, provide counsel to state agencies, ensure the public's access to open government, protect the abused, and much more.

Summary Statement

The Delaware Department of Justice (DOJ) is seeking an exceptional and highly motivated individual to join the Division of Civil Rights and Public Trust (“DCRPT”) as a Deputy Attorney General.� �The DCRPT responsible for protecting the individual rights and liberties of Delawareans; investigating and prosecuting hate crimes, public corruption, and abuse of state office; reviewing claims of actual innocence; and ensuring election integrity.� DCRPT has statewide civil and criminal jurisdiction and regularly tries cases in all three counties. DCRPT also review and, if necessary, prosecute any police officer-involved use of deadly force or force that results in serious physical injury. **This position allows for partial telework flexibility**

Essential Functions

The Deputy Attorney General selected for this position will be a litigator with a strong dedication to justice.� The ideal candidate will be comfortable independently handling complex investigations and/or litigation, including through trial.� Further, this Deputy Attorney General will have a keen understanding of admissible evidence, command of applicable statutes, and experience presenting high-profile and complex cases to a jury.�� Duties include directing investigations, reviewing reports and analyzing the investigative findings to determine whether to either file criminal charges or pursue civil remedies.� This Deputy Attorney General will review the facts and law and make recommendations on what cases to pursue in order to fulfill the mission of DCRPT.� The Deputy Attorney General will assist in the evaluation of applications under the Actual Innocence Program to determine whether applicants meet the criteria for review of their criminal convictions.�

Job Requirements

Strengths must include the ability to evaluate cases, determine resolutions, and anticipate legal issues.� Knowledge of up-to-date investigative methods and the ability to research accurately and effectively is critical.� This Deputy Attorney General will communicate the legal issues in concise and thorough written communications. The selected candidate must have or be able to develop a good working relationship with other Deputy Attorneys General, investigators, support staff, court personnel, and other external agencies and must have the ability and determination to learn and apply the relevant laws and applicable Court rules.

This position is statewide.� Travel among all three counties is required.
