Your Specific Responsibilities:
This is paraprofessional work performing a variety of clerical and health support functions in support of the WIC program. The employee in this position must be able to work independently and follow exact rules, regulations, and procedures without variation. This employee also provides basic nutrition education; tracks client participation; determines the need for re-certification; enters client information into the data base; issues WIC EBT cards; and maintains the security of negotiable items. This position has a primary work site; however the employee will work at other locations for training and staff relief.
Issues WIC EBT cards and directly distributed formulas according to DHM 150-24, the WIC System Guide, and local procedures. Maintains necessary inventories and follows security procedures. Client signature is obtained as required. Informs participants when certification expires and what is required for recertification. Instructs clients on proper EBT procedures. Interviews participants to obtain demographic information and completes necessary electronic forms with required signatures and dates. Advises WIC participants of their rights and obligations and of other social and health agencies availability. Verifies eligibility requirements. Offers WIC clients the option to vote. Additionally, this position also is qualified to assist the nutrition staff and clients in completing the nutrition questionnaire (with the exception of completing the medical questions).
Interviews WIC clients and potential WIC clients, provides nutrition education, and documents services in the computer according to DHM 150-24, the WIC system guide, and local procedures:
• Determines WIC income eligibility status
• Obtains required demographic data
• Completes WIC certification forms as appropriate
• Advises clients of their rights and obligations
• Informs clients of other health and social services
• Is prepared to serve clients at the designated opening time
Performs hemoglobin testing and height/length/weight measurements for WIC clients as per CDC and WIC guidelines. Records health information obtained. Maintains Hemocue machine, maintains a sanitary environment including disposing of biomedical waste as per OSHA guidelines. Performs calibration of equipment as needed. Follows Biomedical Waste procedures.
Performs other related duties as requires (i.e. assist with annual report, strategic plans, and newsletter). Performs related work as required per supervisor’s instructions. Tracks client participation according to supervisor’s instructions. Contacts clients who have missed appointments by phone or mail.
Supports Performance Excellence throughout the organization, utilizing the nationally recognized Baldrige/Sterling Management Model. This includes working with leaders and co-workers in ensuring Accreditation readiness; implementing the DOH-Manatee Strategic Plan; improving customer satisfaction; review and analysis of the organizational and Division scorecards; participating in activities that foster workforce engagement; participating in quality improvement efforts such as process mapping, root cause analysis, process improvement and action planning; adhering to internal policies and procedures; and other activities which result in improved health and organizational results.
Follows FDOH - Manatee personnel rules and regulations and supervisor’s instructions relating to attendance on the job, observation of break times, usage of leave time, and other applicable tasks and behavior. Completes required forms (EARS, People First) for documentation of activities, with accuracy and within the designated time period.
This position may serve clients that speak only Spanish, Creole, or other languages. It may require performance of interpreter duties, if bilingual, or implementation of the Department’s limited English Proficiency Plan. Performs other duties as required, including performance of additional interpreter duties, consistent with skill level, and as needed.
