This position requires you to work on site at one of our facilities located throughout Broward County.
This is an OPS (Other Personal Services) positions and as such no paid time off is offered. Health benefits will be offered for full-time employment. OPS employees are eligible to participate in a deferred compensation plan.

POSITION DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
As a pharmacy technician, you will be responsible for a variety of tasks that ensure the smooth operation of the pharmacy. You will assist the pharmacist in filling all prescriptions for the Department of Health in Broward County Pharmacy under the direct supervision of the Pharmacist.
- Processing prescriptions. Receive and enter written, faxed or electronic prescriptions and/or refill requests and verify that information is complete and accurate. Assists the pharmacist to enter demographic, eligibility, and prescription information into the pharmacy’s computer applications.
- Prepare, label and package medications. Prepare bulk medicines, fill bottles with prescribed medications, and type and affix labels. Mix pharmaceutical preparations according to written prescriptions. Properly sort out traditional vs mail order prescriptions. Properly disperse traditional bags to a will-call bins and mail order prescriptions to delivery preparation area. Assist with preparing mail order medication for mail order send off.
- Inventory management: Monitors inventory levels of pharmaceuticals and supplies and develops a daily order that must be transmitted/communicated to the wholesalers, suppliers, and vendors. Maintain proper storage and security conditions for drugs. Receive and store incoming pharmaceuticals and supplies, verify quantities against invoices, check for outdated medications in current inventory, and inform supervisors of stock needs and shortages. Record keeping of invoices for new drugs and expired ones. Assis with expired drug return process.
- Customer service: Assist customers by answering simple questions, locating items, or referring them to the pharmacist for medication or medical information. Effectively delivers/issues prescriptions to clients in an accurate, confidential, and sensitive manner in accordance with procedures, rules, and regulations via telephones, emails and in person. Directs ineligible clients to the community resource program “First Call for Help for Broward Inc” (Broward 211).
- Assisting with billing and insurance claims: Assists the pharmacist in the determination of eligibility for pharmacy services for the various programs supported.
- Assisting with clerical duties. form management, filing and record keeping, clean and help maintain equipment or work areas as required. Assist with pharmacy operation reports such as: upcoming refills, return to stock, etc.
- Perform other related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Willing to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs shelter, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.
- Licensed as a Pharmacy Technician per Chapter 465, FS.
- Open availability: May need to work alternative hours as necessary to meet the needs of the agency.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- PTCB certification.
- A minimum of (1) one year of pharmacy technician work experience.
