Description: The key leadership and management position in the campus Safety/Security office. Responsible for the organization, direction, supervision, and day-to-day operation of the department.
Major Duties:
- Responsible for the overall leadership and management of the security and public safety program on all campus sites of North Georgia Technical College in support of the education, public service and residential activities of students, staff, and the public.
- Presents in-service training and other educational programs.
- Evaluates employees at scheduled intervals upon reviewing of all relevant information.
- Coordinates operational plans and developments with local and other law enforcement agencies.
- Maintains a program for fire prevention and fire prevention equipment.
- Serves as the primary investigator of on-campus incidents reported to the campus police.
- Prepares and maintains the department’s annual budget.
- Remains up to date with policies, procedures, and state or federal laws that may impact department initiatives.
- Communicates with local police, fire, and traffic departments regarding matters of concern to the college community (traffic, reports, crime, safety, etc.).
- Maintains documentation of hazardous materials on campus.
- Serves on campus committees when requested.
- Represents the College professionally through attendance at civic and government meetings when applicable.
- Maintains Peace Officers Standards Training (P.O.S.T.) certification.
- Interviews, directs, trains, and evaluates the performance of department employees; discusses matters of employee discipline with supervisor.
- Ensures the department adheres to Technical College System of Georgia and/or North Georgia Technical College policies and procedures as well as the safety/security vision of the College.
- Manages the college’s parking program.
- Collects and updates Clery and Annual Security and Fire Safety reports annually.
- Works with TCSG Police Department as the college liaison and coordinates state initiatives to include certification of the NGTC police department.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate degree *and* Five (5) years experience *OR* Seven (7) years of experience in law enforcement *and* Two (2) years of administrative and supervisory experience
- P.O.S.T. certification
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in a College Campus Police Department with a successful track record of student engagement and administrative excellence.
- Bachelors degree in Criminal Justice or related field.
Physical Demands:
- Requires sitting, standing, walking, stooping, bending, crouching, climbing, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
- The work is performed in campus buildings and outdoors where the employee is occasionally exposed to cold or inclement weather.
- The employee is exposed to dirt, dust, grease, machinery with moving parts, and irritating chemicals.
- This position is subject to exposure to extreme and possibly life-threatening conditions.
- This position requires a DOT Pre-Employment Drug/Alcohol test and fingerprinting and the employee is subject to random drug/alcohol testing.
Travel Requirements: Frequent travel to peer groups or other training/conferences, other campuses, and to various locations.

As a condition of employment, employee understands and agrees to complete all required trainings by stated deadlines, to include
- training mandated by the State of Georgia Governor.

CSA Position: According to a federal law known as the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, our college is required to disclose “statistics concerning the occurrence of certain criminal offenses reported to local law enforcement agencies or any official of the institution who is defined as a “Campus Security Authority (CSA) .” Your position fits the definition of a Campus Security Authority (CSA) and is therefore subject to annual CSA training and reporting any criminal offense directly to campus police.
