Make your mark in public service. As an accredited public health department, we're seeking a highly qualified candidate for the position of Laboratory IT Operations Manager to join the Division of Health Protection, Public Health Laboratory located in Decatur, GA.

Leads multiple IS projects of a complex nature. Responsible for assembling project teams, assigning individual responsibilities, developing schedules and coordinating all necessary resources to ensure timely completion of projects. Manages large complex projects from conception through completion following industry recognized project management methodology, experience must have involved independent decision-making, problem-solving, and the utilization of written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills involving diverse units and organizations, Project management including risk management, performance management, strategic planning, and development methodologies. This position reports directly to the State Laboratory Director.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Analyzes the customer's needs and determines the optimum solution.
  • Defines and prioritizes IT project requirements.
  • Develops time and cost estimates, project plans and budget.
  • Ensures operational and customer assistance is available when required to address information systems problems.
  • Evaluates impact of proposed information systems projects on the customer's budget.
  • Keeps up-to-date on technology trends by participating in conferences, conferring with vendors, and reading trade publications.
  • Monitors the staffs' installation, maintenance, and support of IT products/services.
  • Provides expert assistance to customers in planning their IT needs.
  • Schedules downtime and preventive maintenance activities required to keep all equipment in good operating condition.
  • Serves as a link between vendors and IT staff by providing information and guidance in acquiring relevant products and services.
  • Directs subordinate supervisors and staff.
  • Will manage large numbers of agency staff or have large scope of responsibility within agency.

Bachelor's degree in business administration, information technology, public administration, management information systems or a related field from an accredited college or university AND Five years of related experience, Three years of which include management/supervisory experience.
