Position Overview
The Switchboard Operator II at the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs - Manteno home will play a vital role in providing direction and support to our veterans, guests, and staff.
Essential Functions
- Serves as designated lead worker
- Places and receives calls
- Gives assistance to employees concerning call forwarding, call transfer, conference calls, and other routine system features
- Reports out of order equipment within the facility to the proper vendor for maintenance
- Assists visitors in the facility with house phone calls and locations of residences they are visiting
- Performs other duties as required or assigned that are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above
Minimum Qualifications
- Knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to the completion of four years of high school
- One (1) year experience as a telephone operator
Preferred Qualifications
- Working knowledge of switchboard operations
- Working knowledge of telephone etiquette
- One (1) year of experience communicating effectively with the public on a one-to-one basis
- One (1) year of experience remembering accurately, names and locations of personnel in the agency
- One (1) year of experience operating in an independent manner
Conditions of Employment
- Must pass a background check
- Must complete a drug screen and pre-employment physical
- Must meet all agency vaccine/health-related policies and guidance
- Overtime is a condition of employment, and you may be required to work overtime including scheduled, unscheduled, or last minute overtime
