**This does include a $1.00/hour Institutional Stipend.

 

Job duties:

As our team’s newest Cook II, you will be preparing and serving food to patients, cleaning the kitchen areas, instructing and training Cook Is and Food Service Workers, planning menus, and requisitioning supplies.  Work is performed under general supervision.  You schedule will be 5:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. or 9:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. with one weekend off every three weeks.  Your duties will include:

- Planning, coordinating, overseeing, and inspecting work activities of a moderate sized kitchen crew in order to ensure work is completed in an efficient, timely, and proper manner.

- Overseeing a major part of the meal preparation, serving, and clean-up in a state institution kitchen in order to ensure meal is ready on time and served correctly and clean-up is thorough.

- Instructing new personnel in the proper methods of volume food preparation and utilization of kitchen utensils in order to ensure job proficiency.

- Requisitioning food supplies in order to prepare food items indicated on menus.

- Cooking vegetables and meats, carving and serving meats, and making salads in order to prepare completely balanced meals and ensuring portion control.

- Overseeing the cleaning of kitchen utensils and kitchen surfaces in order to maintain sanitary and cleanliness standards.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 Two (2) years’ experience in large-scale institutional food preparation, including serving and clean-up.

Preference will be given to applicants with ServSafe certification, experience in healthcare facilities, specifically in nutritional services, knowledge of therapeutic diets and nutritional standards, the ability to use applicable technology for completion of essential job functions, and possess strong organization, and verbal/written communication skills

Dorothea Dix Psychiatric Center (DDPC) is a 69-bed psychiatric hospital serving the entire State of Maine that provides services for people with severe mental illness.   As a member of a statewide community of care givers, DDPC collaborates with individuals with severe and persistent mental illness, their community and personal supports, to provide recovery-oriented, respectful, compassionate, and effective psychiatric care and treatment in the least restrictive, safest, and most therapeutic environment we can create.

The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is dedicated to promoting health, safety, resilience, and opportunity for Maine people. The Department provides health and social services to approximately a third of the State's population, including children, families, older Mainers, and individuals with disabilities, mental illness, and substance use disorders.
