Job duties: 

This is a confidential supervisory position, responsible for supervision and quality nursing practice. Demonstrates leadership in organizing the delivery of patient care in an acute psychiatric setting for patients experiencing a wide range of psychiatric conditions as well as forensic psychology.  Ensures compliance with all regulatory and governing bodies to provide excellence in state-of-the-art active treatment for patients with severe and persistent mental illness. Evaluates work performance of all assigned staff on an ongoing basis and develops performance improvement goals for individual employees to foster and develop their careers. Supports the mission and vision of Riverview Psychiatric Center and is involved in the strategic plan to give input.  

A Typical Day Includes:

  • Organizes, directs, and manages professional, and paraprofessional nursing personnel in order to deliver high quality nursing care.
  • Investigates any incidents that may be reported
  • Makes suggestions regarding necessary system changes or process improvements.
  • Ensures patient rights are maintained. 
  • Ensures all concerns are handled through the proper chain of command.
  • Fosters a work environment exhibiting fairness, compassion, and empathy to patients and staff.
  • Meets with nursing supervisors and charge nurses and interfaces with nursing administration on a daily basis.
  • Serves as a positive mentor and clinical resource for employees and evaluates employee work performance of assigned staff to develop performance goals to foster and develop clinical staff. 
  • Reviews and monitors work schedules, work hours and staffing plans. 
  • Communicates effectively and courteously with all individuals who may have varied levels of understanding. 
  • Relates to individuals in a caring an non-judgmental manner and facilitates communication between administration and unit staff.
  • Gives and accepts appropriate guidance, support, and input to include demonstrating accountability.

Minimum Qualifications:   

Three (3) to five (5) years of professional nursing education and experience which include three (3) years' experience at a supervisory level. 

Licensing Requirements: 

Registered Nurse as issued by the Maine State Board of Nursing.
