The Department of Marine Resources, Bureau of Policy and Management, is seeking qualified candidates for two Resource Management Coordinator vacancies.

BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION: These positions will serve as coordinators for marine resource management programs, working at the nexus of policy and science. Responsibilities include conducting state rulemaking, representing the state at public hearings, providing technical expertise in fisheries management, and assisting in the development of pertinent laws and regulations. These positions are forward facing and include frequent communication with the fishing industry. Both positions represent a unique opportunity to engage at the intersection of fisheries policy and a changing environment, and to directly contribute to the effective management of Maine’s valuable fisheries.

The Department is seeking to fill two positions with different areas of focus. One position will focus primarily on the overall coordination of state rulemaking, allowing for exposure to many topics throughout the Department. This position will also evaluate special license requests for marine science activities throughout the state.

The other position will focus on a range of fisheries that are primarily managed through state processes, including sea urchins, elvers, and seaweed.  The position will support council activities and other forms of industry outreach as needed and develop management measures, rules, and laws as necessary.

Both positions provide an opportunity for growth and increased responsibility as skills develop.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Requires background combination of education and/or experience demonstrating technical expertise in natural resource program management or position specific expertise.

Preference will be given to candidates with a master’s degree in a relevant field and/or a minimum of two years direct experience working in a policy or regulatory role related to commercial and/or recreational  fisheries, demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects at the same time, ability to successfully convey scientific information to non-scientific audiences, developing regulations and conducting public hearings or meetings, experience dealing with contentious issues, ability to work effectively with minimal supervision, and willingness to travel.

Remote telework may be available upon management approval.
