Job Summary
It pays to consider a rewarding career with the Minnesota Veterans Home in Preston! The new Minnesota Veterans Home-Preston is scheduled to open in fall 2023! We are seeking an intermittent Registered Nurses to join our growing nursing team.
This job posting will be used to fill two (2) idential intermittent positions at the Minnesota Veterans Home- Preston. An intermittent employee works an irregular and uncertain schedule as the needs of the agency require. Intermittent employees must be available to work all three shifts and some weekends. Shifts are: Day shift 6:00am-2:30pm, Evening shift 2:00pm-10:30pm, Night shift 10:00pm-6:30am.
A Registered Nurse (RN) provides direct nursing care to residents, direct and monitor care given by Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) and Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA) in accordance with current Federal, State, Veterans Administration, and facility standards.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications

- Licensed in Minnesota as a Registered Nurse, in good standing.
- Knowledge of nursing practices and techniques sufficient to provide effective nursing care for residents.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining positive working relationships.
- Effective communication skills sufficient to provide and instructions.
- Computer experience sufficient to complete electronic charting and use basic computer functions such as email.
- Ability to make decisions within the scope of nursing responsibilities.
- Ability to evaluate the effectiveness of nursing care provided by other staff, make or recommend changes, and provide mentoring.
- Ability to each self-help skills to residents.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a skilled nursing facility
- Long-term care experience
- Geriatric care experience
- Experience with MDS assessments
Additional Requirements
- A Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) background check will be conducted on the top finalist for this position. Finalists must pass the DHS background check.
- A Tuberculosis (Mantoux) screening (or chest x-ray) is required prior to employment.
- Employment reference checks will be conducted on finalists. This may include a review of documentation related to job performance and contact with the applicant's former employer(s)
