Consumer Protection Specialist-Large Scale Inspector (Northwest Region)
As a consumer, you’re protected by the Missouri Weights, Measures and Consumer Protection Division every time you shop. The division ensures the accuracy of all commercial weighing and measuring devices in Missouri. This is accomplished by annually certifying commercial weighing and measuring devices. The division has six weights and measures inspectors who certify the accuracy of large scales (capacity over 1,000 lbs.), such as livestock scales, vehicle scales, grain hopper and annually tests moisture meter devices. Any device used to determine the price of a commodity stands to be tested and certified by a weights and measures official. Whether it is a scale used in a grocery store, at a farmer’s market, or at a roadside produce stand, the device should bear an approval seal from the Weights, Measures and Consumer Protection Division.

LOCATION: Northwest Missouri regional area which consists of inspecting within the following counties: Atchison, Holt, Andrew, Buchanan, Platte, Clay, Jackson, Clinton, DeKalb, Andrew, Nodaway, Gentry, Worth, Harrison, Daviess, Caldwell, Ray, Mercer, Grundy, Livingston, and Carrol.
NOTE: Applicant must reside in one of the bolded counties or be willing to relocate.
This position requires up to 50-60% overnight travel (Mon – Wed nights out). This is a work from home position, 10 speed box truck provided, laptop, printer and phone provided. 4 day work week (Monday – Thursday, 10 hour days).
Salary: $46,241.04 plus full benefit package
What you'll do:
- Conduct field inspections of commercial weighing and measuring devices for proper installation, method of operation, and accuracy.
- Investigate complaints related to inaccurate weighing and measuring devices.
- Prepare and submit activity, inspection and expense reports weekly and monthly.
- Maintain a state vehicle and assigned inspection equipment.
- Daily travel in assigned region and plan and schedule work activities to achieve established goals.
- Working knowledge of state and federal statutes, rules and regulations pertaining to weights and measures.
- Daily driving of a 10-speed box truck
Minimum Qualifications:
Two or more years of experience involving public contact; AND possession of a high school diploma or GED. Candidate must possess a Class B (manual) commercial driver's license (CDL).
