Created in 1978 by the New Mexico Legislature, the Department of Cultural Affairs represents New Mexico's dedication to preserving and celebrating the cultural integrity and diversity of our state. The Department oversees a broad range of New Mexico's arts and cultural heritage agencies. These include 15 divisions representing a variety of programs and services.

The Cashier is a key front-line staff at the New Mexico Museum of Art who welcomes visitors and groups, sells tickets, troubleshoots, and resolves complaints and problems in a professional manner. The position is responsible for processing cash, debit, credit, and check transactions using Tessitura, a point-of-sale system. The Cashier also plays a key role in communications by answering the Museum's phone line, notifying staff of their guests' arrival, and processing mail. The cashier generates revenue for the Museum following admission guidelines. The position is responsible for collecting and daily accounting of revenue and attendance. The Cashier must be comfortable with computers to resolve problems and produce the necessary reports on visitor attendance and revenue.

The Cashier is responsible for delivering quality customer service by troubleshooting and resolving customer complaints, requests, and issues about services and related matters; providing assistance with group reservations, cashiering, and other departments as needed. The Cashier will be responsible for following established procedures while handling money during cashiering activities.

The Cashier will provide technical support for computerized ticketing; troubleshoot the computerized ticketing system and determine how to resolve problems; generate daily and monthly reports and file as required and needed; collaborate with other museum staff in updating any admissions policies and procedures; and ensure all updates are implemented. The position will provide information to museum staff and groups. The Cashier will schedule groups in the computerized ticketing system to ensure admittance to various venues; provide museum staff with schedule of tours for the upcoming week; provide support for large groups; attend meetings to obtain accurate information pertaining to current and future exhibits and special events at the museum; and maintain and distribute museum marketing materials, brochures, maps, and event schedules.

The Cashier will create and disseminate attendance reports as needed; complete all applicable reports and requests for information related to museum attendance; work with museum staff to implement any changes in how attendance is tracked; and update logs and be aware of all group arrivals, events, functions, classes, and lectures at the museum in order to process and prepare accurate information.

This position serves Museum visitors, Museum staff, and staff of the Museum of New Mexico Foundation and the Department of Cultural Affairs.

The ideal candidate has strong communication skills with a good grasp on public relations; is detail-oriented; exercises good judgment; and has problem-solving skills. The Ideal Candidate has experience handling money and maintaining a cash drawer; one (1) or more years of experience working directly with members of the public of all ages, including large groups or organizations; experience working with a ticketing system selling tickets, particularly Tessitura; and experience dealing with stressful situations that require the ability to make quick, logical decisions.

High School Diploma or Equivalent and three (3) months of work experience in office administration and/or customer service. Substitutions Apply. See Substitution Table below.

Employment is subject to a pre-employment background investigation and is conditional pending results. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment. Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License.

Work is performed in an office-like setting with extensive phone and computer usage and exposure to VisualNideo Display Terminal (VDT). Requires overtime for special events and other activities within the Museum. Evening, weekend, and holiday hours are scheduled, and availability for emergencies is required. There is exposure to cleaning supplies used for the front desk.

This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement and all terms/conditions of that agreement apply and must be adhered to.
