Why does the job exist?
The purpose of the Registered Nurse-Advanced role is to provide comprehensive nursing care, and counsel and teach special care techniques. Employees are directly involved in the development and implementation of one or more programs, conduct surveys and studies, provide highly specialized nursing care to patients, provide emergency care and ensures that patients¿ health care needs are met. This position is actively involved in the community and participates in community outreach activities, to include Emergency Preparedness exercises. Incumbent is required to function proficiently in all various Public Health program areas.
How does it get done?
Advises clients on health maintenance, disease prevention and provides case management as needed in the areas of Family Planning, Breast and Cervical Cancer Program, and Sexually Transmitted Disease Program per protocols. In the area of infant, child, adolescent and adult health, provides health promotion and disease prevention through the promotion of Immunization Program utilizing NMSIIS/BEHR to maintain accurate immunization records. Assists when needed in TB treatments and outreach activities per program protocols. Maintains client records and chart audits per BEHR protocol. Stays current in changes to protocols, with strict adherence. Collaborates with physicians, nurse practitioners and nurses on plan of care and provides quality care to all clients. Stays current in changes to protocols, adhering to protocols and regulatory service requirements such as CLIA. Maintains current RN licensure and CPR certifications in the state of New Mexico. Will perform Community outreach and promote public health programs. Actively assesses community health issues and participates in support and/or improvement projects related to community health and prevention. Participates in planning, organizing, and implementing community health promotion. Seeks and implements new strategies of public health to ensure community identified service needs are provided. Provides community education/training as assigned. Participates in outreach projects such as health fairs, flu clinics, and home visits. Provides monthly reports to supervisor related to community needs and client satisfaction. Will demonstrate Adherence to Quality Assurance and Improvement Processes: Role models leadership skills; maintains Client Confidentiality; and assesses client satisfaction by survey review. Coordinates with State Pharmacy staff on all pharmacy-related issues to ensure adequate levels of pharmacy inventory, climate control, recalls, etc. The RN-A actively works to maintain the standards of the DOH Code of Conduct. Documents in BEHR with professional expertise. Maintains case management/clinical record systems in accordance with Clinical Records Protocols and HIPAA Policy & Procedures at all times and meets training requirements for training and maintenance of Protected Health Information. Ensures data entry and billing criteria are in line with program policies; and attends training programs and meetings to stay abreast of the ever-changing environment.

Ideal Candidate
1. Experience working with and following protocols 2. Experience in peripheral lab draws. 3. Must have strong computer skills using different electronic health records.
Minimum Qualification
Must possess a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in New Mexico OR eligibility for such licensure in accordance with New Mexico requirements OR Eligibility for a temporary license issued for employment at a specific institution in New Mexico and three (3) years of experience as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities of the classification.

Office setting, exposure to visual/video display terminal (VDT) and extensive personal and telephone usage with extended periods of sitting. Must be able to lift 25 lbs. Must be able to perform in outreach settings.
