Black Mountain Neuro-Medical Treatment Center is currently accepting applications for a Registered Nurse for the position of Nurse Educator.

The Nurse Educator works in conjunction with the Director of Nursing and the Assistant Director of Nursing to develop, provide, and coordinate nursing and competency training for nursing staff at BMNTC.   The purpose of this training is to ensure compliance with CMS regulatory requirements thereby ensuring the highest possible quality of care for our residents.
 
The Nurse Educator provides the following services:
 
  • Develop, provide, coordinate and maintain competency training for nursing and nursing support staff in compliance with CMS regulatory requirements, ensuring the highest quality of care for the resident’s residing at BMNTC
  • Provide training that is resident specific to BMNTC’s population, promoting trauma-informed, culturally competent, person-centered care which enhances the quality of their daily lives
  • Provide new employee orientation and mentoring to new nursing staff and support ongoing CMS mandated training, with demonstrated competency
  • Assist nurses and nursing support staff with specific training needs, necessitated by their individual units or resident’s needs
  • Coordinate with nurse supervisors and staff development to assure all yearly trainings are up to date for the CNA staff
  • Work in conjunction with MDS to ensure the accuracy and timeliness of ongoing resident assessments and care planning, per OBRA and CMS mandates
  • Keep abreast of everchanging regulatory requirements and ensure training always meets compliance
  • Annually review related agency policies and procedures for training compliance

This position is designated MANDATORY and MUST report or stay over during adverse weather events and/or other emergencies. 


ABOUT BLACK MOUNTAIN NEURO-MEDICAL TREATMENT CENTER:
 Black Mountain Neuro-Medical Treatment Center is one of three state operated facilities serving adults with chronic and complex medical conditions that co-exist with neurodevelopmental or neurocognitive disorders often related to a diagnosis of severe and persistent mental illness or intellectual disability. The health and physical status of these residents require 24-hour supervision, daily nursing care, and assistance with activities of daily living.

 We are a specialized long-term care facility focusing on maintaining quality of life and dignity for adults with neurocognitive or neurodevelopmental disorders with coexisting complex medical and behavioral needs whose level of support extends beyond that which can be provided in family or community living settings.   The successful candidate will return to the Work Experience section of the application and thoroughly document, in detail, that they possess the following:
 
  • Demonstrated working experience as a Nurse Instructor/Trainer
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, including facilitating presentations
  • Demonstrated proficiency in using Microsoft 365 software including Work, Excel, and Outlook

Management Preference(s):
 
  • Thorough knowledge of CMS/OBRA Regulations and MDS process
  • Proficiency with technology
  • Certification as a CPR instructor
  • Certification in wound care

KSA Terms
 
Basic Knowledge – implies familiarity with the basic principles and terminology of a field to work effectively in a limited range of work situations.
 
Intermediate Knowledge – implies sufficient knowledge of the subject to enable the employee to work effectively within a normal range of standard work situations with only general supervision.
 
Thorough Knowledge – The advanced comprehensive knowledge of the subject to enable the employee to work independently without direct supervision and to assume responsibility for the solution of unusual as well as commonplace work problems, advise on technical questions, and plan methods for difficult work situations.  This degree of knowledge means that the work calls for a complete mastery and understanding of the occupational field.

The successful candidate will return to both the Education section of the application AND the Work Experience section of the application and thoroughly document, in detail, that they possess the following: 

Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina and one year of experience in the area of specialization.  The area of specialization is nursing.

ELIGIBILITY FOR SIGN-ON BONUS

Qualified applicants must be selected from the candidate pool of this posting and meet the State policy following requirements:

A newly hired permanent full time or permanent part-time employee who works 30 to 40 hours per week is eligible for a sign-on bonus (this will be prorated for employees working less than 40 hours per week).

An employee is not eligible for a sign-on bonus if:
  1. the employee has held a position in North Carolina State government, including the judicial system, or the University of North Carolina system within the last 12 months (the employee shall remain ineligible for 12 months from the separation date);
  2. the employee has previously received a sign-on bonus from any State agency;
  3. or DHHS has paid any contract placement or recruitment fees.
This Sign-on Bonus is contingent upon budget and final eligibility determination as of the effective date of hire.
