About Us:

Ohio New African Immigrants Commission (NAIC), a state agency created in 2009, exists to advise the Governor, General Assembly, and state agencies on policies focusing on the special issues and needs of Ohio's sub-Saharan African Immigrants, as well as support and connect African-serving programs and organizations for the ultimate goal of self-sufficiency for sub-Saharan African immigrants in Ohio. The governing authority consists of 11 voting members appointed by the Governor, and four non-voting members appointed by the leaders of the General Assembly. The three core objectives of NAIC are to Advocate, Impact, and Connect, representing a constituency of over 69,000 sub-Saharan African Ohioans across dozens of counties.

What You'll Do:

The New African Immigrants Commission is looking for an Executive Director to join its team! The Executive Director will oversee and facilitate the implementation of the administration, programs, and strategic plan of the Commission. The Executive Director will report to and work closely with the 11-member Commission as the governing body, and will be responsible for:

  • Planning and operation of the annual budget.
  • Displaying substantial government expertise to secure executive & legislative approval of the commission and its initiatives, including providing testimony before the legislature.
  • Establishing employment and administrative policies and procedures for all functions and for the day-to-day operation of the agency.
  • Serving as NAIC’s spokesperson, alongside the Chair, to the organization’s constituents, the media, and the general public.
  • Establishing and maintaining relationships with various organizations throughout the state and utilize those relationships to strategically enhance NAIC’s Mission.
  • Supervising and collaborating with organization staff.
  • Strategic planning and implementation.
  • Planning for Commission and committee meetings.
  • Preparing and publishing public notices for Commission and committee meetings consistent with Ohio law and Commission by-laws.
  • Preparing and presenting rules as needed and ordered by the Commission, and overseeing the process of rule adoption.
  • Insuring compliance with the administrative responsibilities for state agencies.
  • Overseeing marketing and other communications efforts.
  • Ensuring NAIC website is updated as necessary.
  • Overseeing and facilitating contracts for goods or services after Commission approval.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • Transparent and high integrity leadership
  • A minimum of 2 years nonprofit management experience, required; 5 or more years of nonprofit management experience, preferred.
  • Solid, hands-on, budget management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, decision-making and reporting
  • Strong organizational abilities including planning, delegating, program development, and task facilitation
  • Ability to convey a vision of NAIC’s strategic future to staff, board, volunteers, and grant partners
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to oversee and collaborate with staff
  • Ability to communicate and cooperate with other state agencies and other non-governmental organizations
  • Strong public speaking ability
  • Knowledge of Immigrant socialization is a plus particularly of any of the African sub groups
  • Ability to work fairly autonomously
