We provide statewide leadership of highly valued mental health & addiction prevention, treatment, and recovery at OhioMHAS!

We are looking for team members who will serve compassionately, contribute & collaborate, deliver quality and be accountable.

What We Do:

OhioMHAS operates regional psychiatric hospitals in six locations across the state that operate 365/24/7. Our specialized facilities provide short-term, intensive treatment to patients in both inpatient and community-supported environments. We also deliver comprehensive care to patients committed through the criminal justice system.

Position Location: Summit Behavioral Healthcare, 1101 Summit Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45237

Work Hours: 1st Shift 7:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. | 2nd Shift 3:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m. | 3rd Shift 11:00 p.m. - 7:00 a.m. | Assigned shift will depend on Unit 2 contract/currect canvas | Days & Hours May Vary According to Operational Needs

**Summit Behavioral Healthcare (SBH) offers Police Officers a $1.25 shift differential pay for 2nd and 3rd shift full time, permanent employees.

**Police Officer 1, pay range 8 ($21.72 -$26.44/hour), Police Officer 2, pay range 10 ($25.00 - $31.64/hour).

What You'll Do:

  • Assist higher level police officers in patrolling grounds/buildings: conduct regular patrols of all areas of the Summit Behavioral Healthcare (SBH) on foot &/or in a patrol car, protect lives of patients, employees & visitors, check buildings & property for unsecured doors, windows & gates, conduct safety inspections in all areas of the facility for fires or other hazards, reports fire & safety hazards to the safety & health coordinator, take appropriate action in the event of fires, physical hazards, weather emergencies as pertains to safety & welfare of patients, employees & visitors, prevent crimes, apprehend and prevent patients from leaving hospital grounds without permission, enforce Ohio Revised Code, Administrative Rules & Hospital Policies, check identity & nature of business of individuals on grounds, perform security functions by locking/unlocking doors, escorts patients, employees, & visitors in the patrol car.
  • Assists officers & performs security & special service functions: provide assistance to Nursing Service Department (e.g.; assist in restraining aggressive, transport patients, provide patient intervention..), respond to psychiatric, medical & emergency calls, assist safety & health coordinator in conducting fire drills (e.g. complete paperwork, sound/reset alarm, interview employees..), issue keys, fingerprint individuals for lawful purposes, secure patients’ valuables after normal business hours; assign parking permits, assist employees & visitors (e.g., unlocks motor vehicles, starts motor vehicles in emergencies, gives directions..); monitor traffic conditions & parking facilities, check for parking violations, issue traffic/ warning citations as necessary; perform other appropriate duties as assigned by police supervisor during inclement conditions
  • Assist in conducting investigations: conduct criminal, administrative, & civil investigations under the direction of the Police Lieutenant (e.g., make inquiry, interview & document..), investigate & report traffic accidents; cooperate with the State Highway Patrol (SHP) & other agencies in authorized investigations through exchange of information, report major incidents to SHP as directed; assure confidentiality of information relating to hospital business/patients, use good judgment in making inquiry into unusual circumstances, documents &/or report to appropriate authority.
  • Assist other officers in arresting criminal violators: enforce applicable laws through the apprehension, arrest, & prosecution of criminal violators, complete & process related paperwork, file affidavits, serve warrants/summons, issue referrals; testify in court, accept & deliver subpoenas from any court of competent jurisdiction
  • Perform routine administrative duties related to police work: report unsecured areas, log shift activity, keeps log of security conditions & pertinent information, brief oncoming shift personnel, answer telephone, relay messages, write & maintain incident reports, attend training seminars, review updates in methods of handling emergency situations &/or changes in the laws

Qualifications


Formal education in arithmetic that includes fractions, decimals & percentages & in reading & writing English vocabulary; valid driver's license.

Possession of certificate having successfully completed approved basic peace officer training program or completion of 20 yrs. active duty as peace officer per Section 109.78 (D) of Ohio revised code for developmental disabilities & mental health facility employees. Probationary period is one year.

Note: Applicant must be able to successfully perform Ohio Peace Officer Basic Training Program (OPOTC) Fitness Testing Entry Standards for New Recruits.


Knowledge of security & safety procedures & techniques*; investigation procedures & techniques*; state & federal regulations, policies & procedures related to law enforcement*; reporting procedures*; basic first aid techniques*, English vocabulary, fractions, decimals & percentages. Skill in operation of police equipment*; operation of firearms*. Ability to deal with variety of variables in somewhat unfamiliar context; orally present evidence in legal proceedings; read & understand technical material relating to police work; demonstrate physical fitness & agility.
