What are the responsibilities and job description for the Baking & Pastry Instructor position at State of South Carolina?

The Instructor reports directly to the Culinary and Hospitality Division Dean and is responsible for the delivery of quality instruction and management of students enrolled in any Culinary, Baking and Pastry, and/or Hospitality program. Responsibilities occur in the area of instructional development, teaching performance, student advisement, college and community service, instructional management and professional development.

Duties and Responsibilities

INSTRUCTIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Evaluate Courses in the Culinary, Hospitality and Baking and Pastry Arts curriculum in relation to the requirements for degree completion.
Work with the Dean of Culinary and Hospitality to plan new and existing programs and courses.
Assist with the development and refinement of the Culinary, Baking and Pastry and Hospitality curriculum.

TEACHING PERFORMANCE
- Teach courses as assigned and in accordance with the established syllabi.
- Provide high quality instruction for students in the Culinary & Hospitality Division
- Evaluate the accomplishments of students on a regular basis.
STUDENT ADVISEMENT
- Advise and maintain records of assigned student advisees in accordance with division policies and procedures.
- Provide effective academic advisement for students enrolled in the Culinary, Baking & Pastry or Hospitality program.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
- Represent the Division and College by participating in community and professional activities.
- Participate in professional continuing education opportunities.
- Maintain a current awareness of educational innovations and trends appropriate to Culinary & Hospitality education.
COLLEGE AND/OR COMMUNITY SERVICE
- Assist Dean of Culinary & Hospitality in activities related to compliance with specific accreditation.
- Actively participate in activities to select, recruit, admit, and retain students.
- Maintain contacts with appropriate professional and community organizations/individuals in the College service area.
- Serve actively on College committees.
INSTRUCTIONAL MANAGEMENT
- Maintain proper control and effective use of all physical facilities and supplies in the assigned division.
- Prepare reports in cooperation with Division Dean for input into the planning/reporting system.
- Insure communication of policies, procedures, and campus information to all Division students.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required: Must be ServSafe Manager certified. Possess an Associate's Degree in Baking and Pastry Arts and/or Culinary Arts from a nationally/regionally accredited college or university. 5 years of documented/verifiable paid work experience within the past 7 years in the culinary or baking and pastry field, with at least one year in a management position. Candidates must pass a criminal background check. Candidates may be required to submit a valid Driver's License, proof of insurability, and/or a driver's history report for positions involving state travel. Candidate must also be able to obtain CCC or CWPC or higher certification with the American Culinary Federation within three years of hire date.
