Under the supervision of the Human Resources Director, the Human Resources Specialist will support the Human Resource/payroll areas of the College and all employees, including full-time, part-time, work-study, and adjunct employees. The primary duties include but are limited to all payroll processing, including data entry and validation of data and benefits data entry and processing, including tax preparation and verification.
- Assists with monthly and special payrolls, including balancing payroll runs and producing extracts.
- Processes timesheets as needed for all employees.
- Produces monthly, quarterly, and annual reports to ensure quality control.
- Updates employee records for federal and state withholdings.
- Serves as backup for preparing monthly benefits-related remittances for vendors.
- Maintains and updates position data for all positions.
- Troubleshoots payroll discrepancies.
- Assists with HR reception area and other administrative duties as assigned.
This position requires a high school diploma and clerical or administrative experience. A bachelor's degree may be substituted for the required work experience. The preferred candidate will have a bachelor's degree or an associate degree plus two (2) years of clerical or administrative work experience or a high school diploma plus four (4) years of clerical or administrative work experience.The candidate will have a working knowledge of payroll processing, taxes, and policies and procedures related to the payroll function. In-depth knowledge of electronic payroll processing software is a must. Technical expertise and analytical ability for problem-solving with strong attention to detail are critical. Excellent computer software skills, including MS Word and MS Excel, are also necessary. Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Exceptional customer service skills and the ability to communicate effectively are essential. Must handle confidential information appropriately, work independently, and exercise sound decision-making skills in scheduling and prioritizing payroll production tasks. Excellent organizational and time management skills to manage multiple concurrent tasks and meet strict deadlines while maintaining deadlines are essential.
