We are looking for teammates who are:
- Committed to deal and negotiate effectively with taxpayers, their attorneys, CPAs or other representatives
- Strong oral and written communicators
- Organized, detail-oriented, and capable of independently prioritizing tasks
What you will do: In this role, you will identify non-resident non-filers who are conducting business within the state and have a filing requirement.
Primary job duties include:
- Identifying, contacting, and responding to non-resident filers who may have Corporate Income and Sales/Use Tax nexus within South Carolina.
- Reviewing questionnaires submitted by taxpayers to determine whether a filing requirement exists.
- Preparing nexus assessment letters by obtaining returns or data to prepare the assessment.
- Performing research through court cases and other legal precedents to respond to technical inquiries from attorneys, CPAs, or taxpayers involving nexus issues.
- Managing caseloads in a timely manner.
Either:
- A bachelor’s degree and two years of professional experience in accounting, auditing, finance, insurance, or tax preparation or analysis. OR
- A bachelor’s degree and one year of experience in accounting, auditing, finance, insurance, or tax preparation or analysis with 12 hours of accounting.

Academic degrees must be from an accredited institution of higher learning.
- Four years of experience with a minimum of 12 semester hours in accounting or auditing subjects.
- Two years of experience with a minimum of 12 semester hours in accounting or auditing subjects and a masters in Accountancy or Taxation, a Law Degree, or a CPA license.
- Extensive knowledge of tax law, regulations, SCDOR policies and procedures and legal research and techniques.
- Ability to confer, deal and negotiate effectively with taxpayers, their attorneys, CPAs or other representatives.

- Training: Nexus Tax Auditors will participate in a training program to ensure they have the knowledge and skills to successfully perform their job.
- Hours: Work hours are 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday (37.5 hours per week).
- Telework schedule: This position may be eligible to work remotely up to two days per week.
