Responsibilities
- You will serve as the Instructor Development Coordinator for the South Carolina Fire Academy to coordinate, plan and deliver training to instructors and develop a cadre of instructor evaluators.
- You will develop new instructor orientation and instructor re-certification programs.
- You will perform evaluations of SCFA instructors and develop performance improvement measures to ensure instructors meet applicable standards and teach in accordance with applicable policies and procedures.
- You will develop processes and procedures to improve the professional development for SCFA instructors.
- You will work with the Curriculum Section to assist in the development and revision of instructor programs and assists with instructor updates due to revisions of existing programs or policies/procedures.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
- A bachelor's degree and relevant program experience.
- A combination of education, relevant training, and experience may be considered as substitution for a bachelor's degree upon approval by Human Resources.
- A bachelor's degree, a current Instructor/Trainer for SCFA, and five years of experience in firefighting and training coordination.
- Extensive knowledge of NFPA standards, OSHA regulations and fire service professional standards that pertain to Instructor programs.
- Ability to interpret and apply regulations, policies and procedures and to communicate effectively, verbally and in written form with fellow staff members and the instructors of the fire service.
- Ability to design and validate instruments for instructor development and evaluations.
Other Requirements
- Must be able to work nights, weekends and holidays, in inclement weather and in hazardous environments.
- Overnight travel and the ability to drive a state vehicle.
- Must have a valid driver's license, acceptable MVR with state Fleet and agency guidelines.
- Ability to lift objects over 50 pounds, wear PPE and Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (to include fit testing for respirator use and successful completion of required OSHA-compliant medical physical), and work within IDLH environments.
