Job Description :
The Counselor & Access Specialist will provide counseling, crisis intervention, and clinical outreach / educational services to the university community-based in Roanoke.
Responsibilities include intake, assessment, time-limited individual counseling, group counseling, outreach, consultation, and crisis intervention in the areas of mental health and wellness.
This position will also coordinate Roanoke-based accessibility services for students with disabilities and collaborate with faculty and staff to determine reasonable accommodation strategies for students as needed in the classroom, testing and clinical settings.
This position will be responsible for collaborating with colleagues throughout the university (Radford and Roanoke sites).
Minimum Qualifications :
e. LPC, LCSW, LMFT). Professional clinical experience working in a community or college / university counseling setting. Experience in brief intervention, mental health crisis assessment, and individual / group therapy.
Working knowledge of counseling theory and techniques. Knowledge of electronic health records systems. Ability to appropriately assess and intervene in crisis situations.
Knowledge related to the needs of individuals living with disabilities and have solid understanding of the laws governing disability services in higher education.
Applicant should have prior experience working with individuals living with disabilities and / or working knowledge of adaptive technologies / equipment, accessibility software, and best practice methods of materials conversion.
Considerable knowledge of professional ethics and the ability to apply to current work. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues.
Ability to treat all people equitably and with a sensitivity and awareness to cultural differences.
Must be flexible and possess the ability to successfully handle multiple tasks / projects simultaneously and work well under pressure, independently, and in a team-oriented environment.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Self-motivated with a demonstrated understanding of the developmental issues of college students.
Preferred Qualifications :
Prior professional clinical experience (3-5 years) working in a university / college counseling setting. Demonstrated ability to provide outreach, prevention, consultation and seminar presentations.
Experience reviewing disability documentation and qualifying students with disabilities for academic accommodations in a higher education setting.
