DDS Examiner Support Specialist 2

The Disability Determination Services (DDS) is seeking an Examiner Support Specialist to join our team in Tumwater, WA. If you are highly organized and able to prioritize work to meet deadlines, consider this exciting DSHS internal opportunity with the Economic Services Administration (ESA).

In this role, as an Examiner Support Specialist 2, you will be responsible for obtaining records, verifying and validating claim information, working a small caseload of specialized claims, and assisting team members by collecting information from clients. Your work will help Transform Lives!

Some of what you'll do:


  • Receive electronic and paper claims from Social Security and State DSHS offices
  • Review claims for completeness and accuracy, take the necessary actions based on policy requirements, and follow-up as needed
  • Answer incoming calls and direct calls to the appropriate person after evaluating the caller’s needs and verifying identity
  • Answer questions about agency programs and claim information
  • Understand and review all discrepancies between the federal and state computer systems and independently reconcile and resolve edits
  • Operate high-speed optical document scanner and graphic interface designed to solely be used for SSA claims files
  • Provide quality assurance of images and troubleshoots any technical issues
  • Prioritize, analyze, identify, and code electronic medical and technical records using independent judgment about placement in the electronic files
  • Manage a caseload of Office of Hearings Operation claims and assist the Administrative Law Judge(ALJ)
  • Other duties as assigned
Our ideal applicant is a self-motivated, reliable, and collaborative individual who is experienced, detail-oriented, and able to maintain confidentiality. They are a customer and process-oriented specialist who must be comfortable using multiple database systems and have strong verbal and written communication skills. They should be able to multitask, prioritize, and interact with internal staff and external entities as needed, accepting responsibility for the quality and timeliness of work to meet or exceed predetermined goals and objectives, all with little need for oversight.

Who should apply:
Professionals with a bachelor's degree and at least one year of experience working with disability, medical or health insurance claims adjudication or investigation, or a closely related field,
Or, at least one year of professional experience handling claims in a Disability Determination Services office or Social Security Administration,
Or, additional years of qualifying experience may substitute year for year for education.

Preferred knowledge, skills, & abilities:
  • Ability to analyze and interpret Social Security Administration rules and regulations
  • Ability to use multiple database systems
