The Opportunity
WSDOT is currently seeking a Fiscal Technician 2 to support the agency’s mission and the Olympic Region (OR) Highway Maintenance Program by ensuring accuracy and transparency in fiscal activities and providing general office support. Working under general supervision of the Fiscal Specialist Supervisor, this position provides fiscal activity support by applying principles of established procedures in recording, summarizing, and reporting fiscal activities in a variety of work areas, such as recordkeeping, auditing, analysis, budgeting, payroll, travel, purchasing, and other types of fiscal operations. The Fiscal Technician 2 also prepares and maintains fiscal records while compiling and ensuring the accuracy of reports. They also assist assigned organizational units with general office and administrative duties.

What to Expect
Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the Fiscal Technician 2 will:
- Act as point of contact for employees, external customers, and payroll staff for fiscal related questions.
- Maintain and modify fiscal record keeping systems, databases, and spreadsheets; maintain accounts and records; authorize and enter fiscal transactions; and compile and prepare periodic fiscal statements and reports.
- Prepare, audit, verify and process fiscal documents, such as vouchers, purchase requests, invoices, receipts, etc.
- Audit and review WSDOT’s timekeeping system (DOTTime) and other payroll documents; track payroll time reporting.
- Monitor accrual and usage of sick and annual leave, compensatory time, personal holiday, personal leave day, miscellaneous leave, and leave without pay.
- Serve as primary contact and receptionist for assigned organizational units.
- Assist in recruitment activities for assigned organizational units; assist onboarding personnel and internal movements.
Qualifications
To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required:
- Two (2) years of general clerical or fiscal experience; education can substitute year for year for experience.
- Experience with office equipment, including computer software, printer, copier, scanner, fax, calculator, and multi-line telephone.
- Proficient in operating Windows based computers and software, such as MS Office Suite; virtual meeting software, such as MS Teams; and Cloud computing.
- Skills to effectively communicate information to a diverse audience, both virtually and in-person, using a variety of electronic media, including, but not limited to telephones, email, text, video conferencing, and computer conferencing.
It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:
- Two (2) years of experience performing standard accounting and payroll applications.

- In addition to the salary range listed, a general wage increase of 3% will be applied for all state employees on July 1, 2024.
- In addition to base salary, employees may be entitled to other forms of compensation depending on the type, duties, or location of the position.
