The Opportunity
WSDOT is eager to hire an experienced electrician looking to advance their career to serve as an Electrician supporting WSDOT’s mission to provide safe, reliable, and cost effective transportation options to improve communities and economic vitality for people and businesses. As an Electrician, this position will assist in the maintenance, repair, and testing of electrical components and systems supplying power to the I-90 Tunnels and Washington State Convention and Trade Center (WSCTC).
What to Expect
Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the Electrician will:
- Maintain and repair branch circuits consisting of 480-volt 3 phase and 240/120 volt single phase wiring whose components include emergency standby generators, transfer switches, uninterruptable power supplies, power panels, breakers, conduit, conductors, splices, lighting control circuits, transformers, motors, DC drives, rectifiers, tunnel ventilation fan motors, highway illumination, sump pumps,
- Assures adherence to state laws, standard specifications, national, state, and local electrical codes.
- Maintain and repair power distribution systems to 15.5kv that include transformers, switch gear, fuses, load break devices, distribution panels, conductors and monitoring systems.
- Remove obsolete or nonfunctional electrical and electronic components and systems.
- Install new system equipment and components to enhance or improve operation as needed.
Qualifications
To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Current Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B
- Journeyman Electrician EL01 license
In addition to:
- Ability to read, interpret, and follow operational manuals, blueprints, and written correspondence.
- Ability to manipulate in excess of 50lbs with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Ability to climb stairs and walk distance of up to and sometimes exceeding hundreds of years while carrying up to 20lbs. of tools and materials.
- Ability to work next to highway traffic in a variety of weather conditions, including heat, cold, and inclement weather, negotiating steep, rough, and uneven terrain, working in confined spaces at heights above 50 ft. over land or water performing maintenance and repairs.
- Ability to inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair a variety of electrical and electronic systems.
- Ability to respond to emergency call outs within 60 minutes, work nights, work different and/or extended shifts on short notice (days, nights, and weekends), and perform standby duty.
It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:
- Washington State Flagging Card
- Five (5) years of experience working on electrical, electronics, fiber optics, control system and related components.

- The salary listed includes the legislative approved 5% salary premium for positions in King County, and the general wage increase of 3.25% for all state employees effective on July 1, 2022.
