Salary Range: $4,057 - $5,444

The Department of Corrections is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual for the role of Health Records Technician 1 for the Washington State Penitentiary, located in Walla Walla, WA. This is a full-time position, Monday-Friday with a day shift schedule.
 
Under the direct supervision of the Health Records Technician 2 (HRT2), this position ensures Health Records are available to Medical, Mental Health, Dental, Optical, and other DOC Health Services providers at Washington State Penitentiary, as well as to the Health Services Managers. This position monitors the content of the Health Records to ensure that only appropriate documentation is placed inside and that each piece is filled out completely with appropriate signatures. Maintaining complete and accurate Health Records supports the delivery of quality care thus promoting positive patient health outcomes which supports peoples’ success, patient safety and public safety.

  • Disclosure, dissemination, and procurement of health information.
  • Review and process patient requests to review their health record within 15 working days or less of receiving the request.
  • Health record management.
  • Health record Department lead.
  • Perform formal health record audits.
  • Technical assistance and direction.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Certification by the American Health Information Management Association as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered health Information Technician (RHIT) or obtain within six (6) months of appointment and maintain certification during period of employment.
  • Valid driver’s license.

 

Preferred/Desired Qualifications:

  • Two years or more experience in Health Information Management
  • Current on State and federal laws, national standards, and department policies governing health records and health information disclosure and ability to apply that knowledge in an appropriate manner.
  • Experience working in a correctional facility.

COVID 19 Vaccination Requirement 


Employees of the WA State Department of Corrections (DOC) are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of employment.   • Tuberculosis (TB) is a priority health issue for DOC employees. The successful candidate may be required to provide valid proof of a baseline TB skin test within 60 days from the date of hire.   When positive tests result, further information, testing and treatment will also be required. Employment is not contingent upon test results.
  • This position may be represented by a bargaining unit.
  • Requires respirator medical evaluation questionnaire, fit testing, training, and use of respiratory protection as required by the WA Industrial Safety & Act standards. Refer to WAC 296-842 to learn more.
