We are looking to hire a qualified Utility Operator for our Springhill, LA operations. This role performs a variety of tasks related to the operation of the plant including framing, QC rolling poles, inspecting and cleaning to conform to standards of quality in untreated and treated material, as well as basic preventative maintenance on equipment. The work is primarily outdoors in all weather conditions.
Responsibilities:
- Defect identification per ANSI standards.
- Class unframed poles.
- Identify pole species.
- Sort material to meet customer specifications.
- Clear understanding of pole identification practices (butt and top markings, tags, and branding).
- Possess a solid understanding of Work Order documentation requirements.
- Read and interpret framing prints and select the equipment required for processing.
- Safe and effective operation of all framing equipment.
- Make straight cuts with a chainsaw, within ¼" deviation from square per 12" pole diameter.
- Capable shaver hand tool routine maintenance.
- Make tags accurately.
- Assist in QC treating inspection.
- Perform banding and strapping of rail cars and poles to specification (AAR).
- Rework poles to specification on cut back skids.
- Run Weigh Scales independently.
- Understand and provide shipping and export documentation, notify production supervisor or shipper when orders ship.
- Informs truck drivers of yard safety rules.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or GED; or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Knowledge of ANSI standards
- Ability to prioritize work and handle multiple responsibilities
- Knowledge and skill of basic equipment maintenance
- Good eye/hand coordination
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one or two-step instructions
- Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's
- Proficient with the Weigh Scale Software
- Ability to perform written and housekeeping environmental stewardship expectations within the department
- Ability to work in extreme weather conditions
