Job Description: Senior Behavioral Health Nurse
Shift/Hours: Day Shift: 6:45 am - 7:15 pm; Night Shift: 6:45 pm - 7:15 am
Holiday/Weekend Requirement: Weekends: Every other weekend; Holidays: Determined by Nurse Manager.
On Call Requirement: Can be placed on-call for low census, but there are no mandatory call shifts or mandatory overtime required.
Internal Pay Scale Range: Starts at $34 and increases with experience
Shift Differential: Nights - $4.00; Weekends - $5.00
Responsibilities:
- Nursing care and management of patients being admitted for behavior issues associated with mental health conditions such as bipolar depression, general depression, schizophrenia, early onset dementia/Alzheimer's, etc.
- Admission to the unit is voluntary and not involuntary or violent patients are accepted on this unit.
- The treatment plans involve medication management, therapy, and monitoring. While the patient may have medical/health problems (diabetes, high blood pressure, etc.,) they will not be admitted for medical management of these conditions on the BH unit.
- Should a medical issue arise, and more extensive treatment is required, the patient will be discharged and transferred to the inpatient medical unit. Average LOS is 12 days.
Must Haves:
License: GA RN License or compact license.
Certification: BLS
Experience: No new grads – must have at least 1 full year with 2 years being preferred.
Education: Associates Degree.
*De-escalation training (CPI) is preferred, but we will teach.
About the Unit:
Number of Beds: 12
Patient Population: 55 and adults leading a geriatric lifestyle are candidates
Common diagnoses: bipolar disorder, depression, schizophrenia, early onset Alzheimer's/dementia or an acute change in that condition needing further medication management
Nurse to patient ratio: 1:5-6 there are 1-2 Mental Health Tech’s staffed every shift as part of the care team.
Average number of admits per day or week: 1-2 week but that is expected to increase.
