What are the responsibilities and job description for the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Manager position at Stoel Rives LLP?
Stoel Rives LLP has an immediate opening for a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Manager in either of our Portland or Seattle offices.
This firm-wide position provides strategic administrative support for the firm’s diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives and programs. This position works closely with lawyers of all levels, firm leadership, and administrative staff to provide strategic guidance and administrative management support.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
a) Provide strategic and administrative support for the firm-wide and local (as needed) DEI Committees, subcommittees, including coordinating DEI related events, diversity celebrations, sponsorships, trainings, and office-related events and efforts.
b) Responsible for assisting the DEI Committee in tracking and developing the appropriate programming regarding diversity awareness (i.e., Women History Month, Pride, Black History Month, Asian American Pacific Islander Month)
c) Collaborate with the DEI Committee Cabinet to develop and manage the budget process, including reviewing and approving budget requests from lawyers, staff, affinity groups, and others.
d) Partner with the Director of Talent & DEI to review, analyze and prepared the annual diversity metrics report and leads the Practice Group and Office diversity metrics reporting process.
e) Co-lead with the Director of Talent & DEI the coordination and implementation of Diversity Lab related programs, including Move the Needle Fund, and Mansfield Rule.
f) Design and implement all DEI related training programs with the DEI Committee, DEI Programming Subcommittee, and DEI Staff Subcommittee.
g) Lead client-related DEI efforts, programs, and initiatives, such as Intel Diversity Pitch Program, Intel Diverse Mentor Program, DEI Client Team Lead Series.
h) Liaise between talent development and diversity, equity, and inclusion by collaborating with the Director of Talent & DEI, Manager of Talent Development, and Talent Development & Diversity Administrator to find synergies, bridge gaps, and improve our talent development programs and initiatives to foster the retention and advancement of all lawyers and staff.
i) Establish and maintain relationships with diversity-focused external organizations.
2. Committee Support
a) Provide strategic and administrative support for the firm-wide DEI Committee, including setting meeting agendas; reviewing and advising on policies, sponsorships, and programs; setting the annual budget; and administering the awards process.
b) Liaise between DEI and pro bono by collaborating with the Chair of the DEI Committee to find synergies, bridge gaps, and improve our DEI efforts.
Other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL CAPABILITIES
Must demonstrate initiative, creative and strategic thinking, leadership and attention to detail on all issues related to talent development, diversity, equity and inclusion. Must be able to work with only general direction and have exceptional project management skills to organize and maintain a significant number of projects with multiple priorities simultaneously. Must have exceptional oral and written communication skills and be able to facilitate individual and group meetings and make oral presentations. Must be able to work effectively with a diverse group of highly educated individuals with strong opinions and varying priorities and goals. Must have an approachable and positive demeanor and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of firm personnel by exercising diplomacy, tact and candor. Must also have strong judgment and be able to maintain confidential and sensitive information.
Physical and Mental Capabilities
Must be able to operate a computer, calculator, and telephone. Must manage multiple projects with multiple variables and have the ability to organize and manage independent projects simultaneously. Must be able to read, interpret, and understand written and verbal information, present ideas effectively, sometimes under pressure, and maintain stable performance, sometimes under time constraints or opposition.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree and at least 5 years’ experience designing and implementing strategic training and development or diversity programs, preferably in a large professional services environment. Must possess a thorough knowledge of lawyer development and diversity strategies and creatively advance the use of cutting-edge techniques and technology to enhance diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts. Juris doctorate in lieu of experience accepted on a 1:1 basis.
NORMAL WORK HOURS
This position is salaried and exempt from the FLSA. Normal work hours are 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m., Monday - Friday. Some domestic travel is expected.

The pay range for this position is $92,000 - $153,000; however, the base compensation presented to a candidate may vary based on skills and overall experience. This salary range is based on market location.
