This is an executive level position, reporting directly to the company President, for a small-to-mid size organization with full P&L responsibility for a business unit in growth mode. We are looking for someone who can refine and champion systems that have started to be put in place and take them to the next level—both in terms of operational capacity as well as sales.

Stoltzfus Logistics International is small but complex operation. They operate out of one warehouse with a small team, but solve big problems for their clients. The GM will need to assess situations, interpret detail, research options, plan, and then equip and lead teams to make it happen. The SLI team just moved to a new warehouse and are adapting to take on some major new contracts, so this GM must have good interpersonal skills to lead a team through transition.

SPECIFIC ROLES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Division Strategy

  • Work with President to understand vision for the unit and establish realistic goals—including assessing feasibility and potential paths for new endeavors. Understand core competencies and different ways they can be applied to grow revenue.
  • Keep a pulse on customer needs and market trends; advise on opportunities.
  • Assess market conditions and articulate strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT). Identify where we can add value and be positioned for success.
  • Keep an eye on competition and partner with President to develop strategies for staying competitive.
  • Refine processes, ensuring they are solving the right problems in the right way.
  • Communicate goals to personnel and translate them into accountable objectives.
  • Delegate workload so that it is proportionally shared; cross-train and develop teams to be able to meet current and future operational demands.
  • Track and report on goal attainment to leadership.
  • Ensure margin/profitability goals are maintained or exceeded—including looking for ways to improve efficiency and reduce waste.

Warehouse Operations

  • Maintain compliance as an FTZ warehouse.
  • Oversee information control and management, particularly regarding flow of inventory. Understand, teach, and record import and export compliance documents.
  • Equip, develop, and direct warehouse employees to perform their tasks efficiently.
  • Maintain a safe and positive workplace environment for the team.
  • Keep warehouse organized to maximize operational flow and reduce errors.
  • Perform QA of all operations: Through systems and supervision, ensure that containers are loaded on-time with the correct products, according to specifications.
  • Make sure equipment is updated/repaired in a timely manner.
  • Work with HR to hire, onboard, train, and reward workforce. Recommend changes to personnel or org structure as needed to best support operational requirements.
  • Stay updated on key rhythms: shipping line schedules, container loading frequency per customer, holiday ordering, feed delivery cycles, etc.

Sales / Account Management

  • Direct the Business Development Manager on their priorities, with indirect supervision of account managers.
  • Maintain good relationships with key accounts, problem solving on their behalf.
  • Represent Stoltzfus Export to global clients, vendors, and logistics companies.
  • Make the call on what heroic actions can or cannot be done for customers when they make requests outside of standard procedures—balancing profitability and team limitations with customer satisfaction, communicating care for customer when we cannot fulfill requests.
  • Help plan higher-expense client relationship initiatives (such as site visits, etc.)

Interfacing With Other Departments

  • Provide timely service and reporting to internal clients and shared services.
  • Partner and communicate with Trucking frequently.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least 5 years of experience in warehouse/logistics operations, with at least 2 years of experience managing a warehouse.
  • At least 5 years of experience in team leadership at a mid-manager position or higher. Should be able to demonstrate proficiency in leading high-performing teams—hiring, training, and mobilizing with clear direction and energy.
  • Business development / sales experience, preferably at a manager level or higher. Able to interpret market conditions and position the business for success.
  • Proven ability to refine and scale processes in the midst of high levels of ambiguity and constantly changing variables.
  • Able to read and understand financial statements as well as develop budgets.
  • Good at cultivating productive relationships that open up new opportunities.
  • Experience using ERPs and organizing information; able and willing to learn new technology.
  • Comfortable making difficult decisions with tact and respect.
  • High school diploma and business degree (or similar) preferred; sufficient experience that demonstrates mastery of key concepts and ability to learn can be substituted.
  • Able to assist with warehouse activities; should be able to lift at least 50 pounds.
  • We will give strong preference to candidates with prior experience in the import/export industry and with customs.
