DIRECTOR OF EMPLOYEE CARE
The Director of Employee Care role is dedicated to the constant building, auditing, and execution of the company’s Training Tools and Team Processes. In addition to directing and coordinating curriculum, this role will lead Stone Creek’s implementation of Remarkable Care processes and manage our Employee Life Cycle. The primary responsibilities of the DoEC include but are not limited to:
METRIC OF FOCUS:
EMPLOYEE RETENTION Metric: The Director of Employee Care is responsible for ensuring all training and informational tools across the company are culturally appropriate, accurate, clear, and caring. Without clear expectations, informational curricula, and well organized and managed processes, team member performance would crumble and lifecycle would shorten. Further, the DoEC guides the Employee Care team in facilitating clear and caring communication with all past, present, and future SCC team members regarding questions, concerns, and/or requests. Therefore, the key indicator of performance for the Director of Employee Care is an average tenure of 1 or more years for flow roles, 2 or more years for specialty roles, and 4 or more years for leadership roles with at least 50% of specialty and/or leadership roles acquired from within as path advancement opportunities.
ROLE ASPECTS:
TEAMS PROCESS MANAGEMENT -- The DoEC will have an excellent understanding of the SCC employee base, human resource best practices and compliance, and the processes the company uses to manage the employee life cycle in order to help create an equitable, ethical, and engaging experience for our employees. The DoEC will ensure Stone Creek HR processes are user friendly and used properly for the remarkable care of our team leaders and their direct reports.
REMARKABLE EMPLOYEE CARE -- As a member of Teams and People and the Team Leader to the Employee Care Team, the Director of Employee Care is responsible for providing guidance and creating structure that supports a remarkably caring experience for all SCC team members. From onboarding through offboarding, the DoEC will consider team members and their needs and balance them with the needs and strategies of SCC. Such situations include, but are not limited to, supporting company insurance decisions, building company policies, creating learning structures, and advising on individuals’ performance concerns.
EMPLOYEE INFO MGMT & TOOLS AUDITING – The Director of Employee Care is responsible for supporting the Employee Care team’s management of all employee information in the company’s HR database. This includes assisting employees in updating their personal information, accessing up-to-date performance review rubrics, and assisting Team Leads in updating their team information and running reports. All tools and training materials will be routinely audited to ensure utmost accuracy and maintained as appropriate in the Learning Management System and internal information management systems.
CROSS TEAM SUPPORT – The Employee Care Team, with the support of the Director of Employee Care, is to be a first point of contact and resource for employee information for all future, current, and past Stone Creek Coffee Employees. This includes information surrounding employee benefits and company policies. The Director of Employee Care will inform company hiring goals and manage the SCC Benefits Package, the 401K program, and Workers’ Compensation in addition to coordinating benefit meetings for those eligible during new and open enrollment. Similarly, as a support to all team members the DoEC will support by monitoring and managing incidents, accidents, and crucial conversation needs as they are brought to the Teams & People Team.
TEAM EDUCATION & LEADERSHIP LEARNING: The Director of Employee Care supports the development and execution of Leadership Learning for Team Leaders to further improve clarity and understanding of expectations and aid in professional development opportunities. Additionally, team members will engage in Never Stop Learning opportunities with the DoEC, such as DEI&B education, to enrich team member experience, communicate expectations, and strengthen SCC culture.

HANDLING DIFFICULT CONVERSATIONS – A team leader at Stone Creek must be able and willing to have difficult conversations about performance, compensation, and workplace dynamics with clarity and professionalism. Workplace dynamics include performing the coaching, correction, and leadership necessary for promoting a safe, healthy workplace that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive. This requires proactively addressing performance concerns and providing clear assessments of their team members. Handling Difficult Conversations may at times also apply to customer or vendor interactions. In the event a customer or non-employee is speaking or acting in a disrespectful, aggressive, or otherwise inappropriate manner, the team leader must be able and willing to engage in corrective actions such as asking the individual to leave, or contacting law enforcement to secure expulsion.
KEEPING & CAPTURING COMMITMENTS – The mission of Stone Creek advances when everyone keeps their commitments in a timely fashion. A team leader must be an example of quality commitment capturing, making, and keeping. If a team leader struggles to keep their commitments then the work of their whole team, and the teams they serve, will suffer. A team leader will always keep their commitments or will communicate in advance with an updated plan if they will be unable to keep a commitment.
GIVING FEEDBACK AND BUILDING GROWTH PLANS – The team members at Stone Creek rely on their leader to guide their development and maintain an environment where team members can gather around coffee, be their authentic self, and celebrate differences together. Therefore, team leaders must be able to craft development plans for their specific team members and for their team. Part of that work will require providing regular, specific feedback to their team members pertaining to their work quality, contribution to workplace dynamics, personal growth, and potential path through daily interactions and formal performance reviews. Team Leaders will track growth goals and outcomes for their team members in Paycor and/or Asana.
BUDGET & METRIC TRACKING AND FOLLOW-UP – Every team leader needs to have an active, clear understanding of their team’s financial success or struggles including their performance to their respective budget lines. As part of this work, team leaders are expected carefully and intentionally to manage their inventory, perishable and nonperishable, in a way that represents responsible resource stewardship. Team Leaders will use this understanding to craft plans for adjusting their behaviors and priorities to improve their performance to their metrics.
