Archaeological Field Technician

Stone Environmental Engineering & Science (STONE) located in Columbus, Ohio is seeking temporary, on-call Archaeological Field Technicians (i.e., employed on a per project basis) for projects throughout Ohio. We have multiple positions available to support upcoming projects by performing Phase I archaeological survey fieldwork. Duties can include (but are not limited to) excavation of shovel test pits, sifting, bagging and sorting artifacts, keeping fieldnotes, and potential additional duties as needed.

Minimum qualifications:

  • B.A./B.S. in Archaeology, Anthropology, or other closely related fields. Education and/or archaeological fieldwork experience in the Midwest, United States preferred
  • Ability to identify precontact and historic artifacts of the Ohio Valley
  • Previous experience in archaeology fieldwork or completion of an archaeology field school
  • Ability to follow instructions and work independently
  • Ability to take detailed, legible notes
  • Ability to follow instructions and communicate effectively
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team

Job requirements:

  • Working outside and being exposed to varying weather conditions
  • Ability to carry equipment (50 lbs or less) and traverse uneven terrain for extended periods of time
  • Ability to walk long distances, recurring bending, standing, stooping, lifting, reaching, hand and shovel digging/excavation, and kneeling for extended periods of time
  • Ability to travel and stay out of town

Compensation:

This is a temporary, as-needed position with compensation on an hourly basis at a range of $20 to $25/hr depending on qualifications. Per diem and lodging are provided for out-of-town work.

Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour

Expected hours: No more than 40 per week
