Job Summary:

The Group Leader is responsible for auditing work processes and ensuring the safety, quality, and timely completion of all activities of their teams, while guiding, developing and mentoring Team Leaders in the continuous improvement of their job performance and skill sets. They proactively pursue the vision established for the area and foster an atmosphere of teamwork and cooperation.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Comprehend company policies and develop them into the working environment
  • Communicate management information effectively to teams and from teams to management.
  • Develop close working relationship with cross functional teams.
  • Be familiar with the status of maintenance and production in the plant.
  • Resolve problems related to production and human relations and strive to keep team morale high and attitudes positive.
  • Constantly strive to improve the efficiency of all jobs (Kaizen).
  • Develop and improve “visual control” to improve employee understanding of group’s goals.
  • Encourages team involvement to achieve best results.
  • Lead and support teams in Practical Problem Solving.
  • Develops team direction through team discussions and planning.
  • Act as a mentor for his/her group both inside and outside of the plant
  • Work with other supervisors to develop and maintain high levels of communication
  • Provides information to teams through SQDCM for analysis and team planning and challenges team to develop improvement initiatives through some of the following activities:
    • Safety:
      • Immediately responds to all safety issues.
      • Daily auditing and immediate response to PPE requirements. Acts as role model for PPE rule adherence.
      • Coach and counsel team towards achieving Safety goals and targets.
      • Track, report status of safety initiatives and support follow-up.
      • Conduct weekly safety audit walk-through with team leader.
      • Support team leader in completing Monthly Safety Talk.
      • Support training needs of team members.
    • Quality
      • Track and report daily quality performance to team.
      • Communicate weekly Quality Indicators to team and team leader.
      • Challenge team members to hold highest possible quality standards.
      • Master quality requirements of every job on team (check parts, quality check routes, etc.).
      • Enable Practical Problem-Solving Process and support initiatives to solve/prevent quality defects.
      • Complete daily audits with team leader (LPA, LSA, etc.).
      • Lead and support Standardized Work initiatives.
      • Motivate team to develop Error/Mistake Proofing initiatives.
    • Delivery:
      • Promote and Support throughput improvements.
      • Communicate daily customer requirements and track/report daily delivery requirements.
      • Provide needed resources and support for Line Balancing and Workstation Optimization initiatives.
      • Monitor and track machine cycle times.
      • Daily audit and tracking of performance requirements.
      • Support team in rapid and effective root-cause identification and problem solving.
    • Cost:
      • Track and report cost goals and targets to team (OME, Scrap, tooling, overtime) and support/challenge development of team cost-saving initiatives.
      • Empower team to identify and eliminate waste.
    • Morale:
      • Issue and comply with consistent discipline.
      • Review and reconcile daily overtime.
      • Develop and maintain training matrix.
      • Enable team to hold team meetings.
      • Encourage and support implementation of employee suggestion submissions
      • Recognize team members for initiatives

Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in Business, Manufacturing, or related field required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Minimum Education required:

  • Minimum of three (3) years of relevant manufacturing experience required.
  • Minimum two (2) years of previous leadership or supervisory experience required.

Minimum Experience Required:

  • Automotive industry experience preferred with parts production, quality, or production control experience a plus.
