The Senior Controls Design Engineer is a crucial member of the engineering and design team, tasked with developing and implementing engineered solutions. This role will be primarily based in the Vermont office, with necessary travel to customer project sites for system installation and commissioning phases.
⚡ Key Responsibilities:
- Design, program, and commission control systems for grid-scale BESS.
- Create and define communication datapoint lists for the customer and SCADA interface.
- Collaborate with clients to convert their requirements into detailed project specification documents, clearly outlining scope and deliverables.
- Program PLC and RTAC logic controllers using IEC 61131 ST, FBD, and LD.
- Diagnose and resolve issues with electrical, controls, and AC/DC inverter power systems, coordinating modifications or corrective actions with engineering and production teams.
- Develop and execute Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) plans at the Waterbury, VT production facility and perform On-Site Acceptance Testing (OSAT) at customer sites.
- Assist in the design and review of electrical/controls design drawings and equipment lists.
- Help standardize logic modules and data structures, identifying opportunities to enhance efficiency and coding standardization.
⚡ Qualifications:
- Preferred degree in engineering with a focus on controls, electrical, or software engineering.
- At least 3 years of experience in the design and programming of PLCs.
- Experience with analog and digital PLC I/O circuit design.
- Knowledge of industrial protocols such as Modbus/TCP and/or DNP3 is a plus.
- Strong electrical troubleshooting skills and excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- CAD drafting experience, preferably with SOLIDWORKS, is a plus.
- Experience with electrical power systems, grid-scale inverters, or BESS is a plus.
