Technology Director Job Description
Role: Technology Director
Primary Purpose: Working collaboratively with the District Directors; Special Education,
Finance, Human Resources, Food Service, and Principal, the Technology Director manages the technological resources of the School. From individual employee workstations and support thereof, to procurement and implementation of school-wide information systems, to strategic planning, the director of technology plays a key role in the overall operational effectiveness of the organization. This position comes with substantial budgetary and supervisory responsibility.
The Technology Office staff comprises one full-time position: Technology Director. Success in this position requires a high degree of technical skill, problem solving, service orientation, and a strategic, forward looking approach.
Status: Full time administrative position, year-round
Minimum Qualifications:
● Bachelor’s degree in information technology, information systems, computer science or related field or equivalent work experience.
● 8 years’ experience working in IT operations.
● Minimum 3 years’ experience overseeing IT teams and projects.
Certification Required: Field related certifications and continuing education are preferred.
Reports To: Principal and Superintendent
Direct Reports: None (Systems/Network Administrators/Helpdesk)
Key Task, Duty, Responsibility Areas:
● From individual employee workstation support; to procurement and implementation of school-wide information systems, to strategic planning, the director of technology plays a key role in the overall operational effectiveness of the organization.
● Responsible for the school’s data systems functionality, network security systems, and support services.
● Coordinate and direct implementation of information systems as the School’s needs evolve.
● Ensure the IT department operation adheres to applicable laws and regulations.
● Organize and maintain infrastructure, including network systems and individual workstations, including upkeep, and upgrading of existing systems, diagnostics, trouble-shooting, patching, and updates.
● Maintain a secure and safe computing environment for students and staff; ensure confidentiality of student, staff, and family data, information, and documents.

● Set up employee accounts and workstations.
● Identifies and eliminates security risks.
● Analyzes requirements for IT needs, and improves security and efficiency of the IT infrastructure.
● Routinely review existing systems to ensure consistent and efficient access to technology; troubleshoot and problem solve issues that arise.
● Collaborate with administration and users to evaluate and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of school systems and equipment.
● Evaluates IT operations with regard to established goals.
● Communicates within the IT team and across departments as needed.
● Assesses need for new equipment and software.
● Prepares progress and budget reports for upper management.
● Hires new members of IT staff.
● Builds and maintains relationships with outside vendors.
● Manages company help desk.
● Contributes to the Strafford team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
● Coordinate school’s one-to-one Chromebooks program, including roll out, maintenance, installations, and updating machines.
● Maintain school’s equipment inventory and develop systems for tracking repairs, upkeep, upgrades, and replacement.
Except as specifically noted, the following functions are considered essential to this position:
● Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as assigned by the Principal.
● Perform tasks as required, relating to the School/District Information Systems.

● Experience with databases, networks (LAN/WAN) and patch management.
● Knowledge of security systems Network Video Recorder (NVR) and Access controls.
● Experience with local server administrator and organization.

● Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs. on an occasional basis.
● Mobility sufficient to move about the campus.
● Ability to communicate clearly.
● Ability to conduct maintenance and repairs to devices, servers, networking equipment.
● Ability to terminate network cabling.
Sub-Roles Required:
● Roles and responsibilities as directed by School Board Policy.
● Employee may be required to drive personal vehicle, within the district, as well as outside of the district to attend meetings (reimbursement for district use mileage is available).
Annual Summative Performance Evaluation Timeframe: Evaluation will be based on ability and effectiveness in carrying out the responsibilities of the position as defined. Performance will be reviewed annually by the Principal in accordance with School Board policy.
Background Check: Applicants will be subjected to a criminal background check required by state law. Employee must pass background check to enable bonding by the district’s liability insurance carrier.
