What are the responsibilities and job description for the Network Engineer position at STRATA?

How you’ll make an impact:

The Network Engineer is a vital role that will be an integral member of our Security and Infrastructure Teams and will provide escalated support on Strata's networking environment. The role will support, troubleshoot, and administer WAN\LAN switches, Wi-Fi, Internet, load balancing, VPN, 802.1X, voice, and other networking technologies in a highly complex environment. This individual should be self-motivated, able to work with minimal supervision, have a passion to learn new technologies, and be able to work in high pressure situations.

  • Provide leadership and support to design, develop, maintain, and operate the networking infrastructure
  • Administration of a centrally managed network environment
  • Assist with capacity planning and yearly budgeting for the network infrastructure
  • Manage and maintain positive vendor relationships
  • Assist with networking related projects from idea generation to implementation, including selection, recommendation, design, testing, and implementation of various solutions
  • Engineer solutions that are highly available, scalable, and support Strata’s growth
  • Produce, maintain, and update technical documentation related the network environment
  • Perform day-to-day operational tasks on network devices
  • Diagnose and resolve performance and reliability issues across hardware, operating systems, application, and network
  • Assist with the development of roadmaps, documentation, and takes ownership for various network solutions
  • As-needed participation in after-hours maintenance windows to update, change, and install network systems
  • Provides third level support for technical support issues. Creates knowledge base articles and cross trains service desk on network issues. Provide root cause analysis of problems and implement creative solutions to prevent reoccurrences.
  • Project management of small to medium technical project implementations. Including communication, stakeholder management and technical implementation. Develop timelines and budget estimates and provide status reports on the project progress.
  • Independently research and recommend new technology to our environment

What we’re looking for:

  • Minimum 6 years of applied IT experience
  • 4 years of experience working with data center and network infrastructures
  • 3 years of experience working with Cisco, Extreme, Meraki, and F5 network equipment
  • Experience working with key networking technologies including DNS, DHCP, and IPv4 subnetting
  • Knowledge of virtualization, SAN, and server configuration, administration, and maintenance
  • Solid experience in Cloud Infrastructure network design and management
  • Strong analytical skills – the ability to assist in resolving various networking issues for multiple integrated locations and systems
  • Specifically, this position will require daily utilization and problem-solving skills with respect to the following technologies (candidate does not need to be skilled in all of the following areas but needs to be knowledgeable on most):
    • Static and dynamic routing protocols such as OSPF and BGP
    • Route\Switch protocols and Quality of Service (QoS)
    • VXLAN and eBGP VPN using DCNM
    • Network load balancing and high availability
  • Time management and organizational skills are imperative.
  • CCNA / CCNP certification or related network certifications a plus
  • Strong communication skills, written and verbal, with all levels of management and personnel.
  • Ability to learn quickly and apply learned principles
